View Full Version : So you buy the 98c + flatline, what next..?
After reading up, and being constrained to a budget, i am about to purchase a new Tippmann 98c from here:http://www.shop.justpaintball.co.uk/acatalog/Tippmann_98_Camoflauge.html#a94 (down to reliability and the camouflage skin looks sick!) , the first upgrade being a flatline barrel, second a double length trigger. I have a few questions though;
Some are saying that they have put the barrel on and its ended up being messy, is this just down to tuning alone? and how hard is it to fit and tune to a beginner?
Its totally stock so what do i get next?
Also is there a specific hopper that is recommended to go with it?
Edit: Can you also use lamens terms as i read other upgrade threads and didnt have a clue what people were replying with hence i needed to make this thread!
Cheers

insted of getting a double trigger get a responce trigger, it'll help you fire faster,
as for flatlines, they're fantastic, when i had me 98 i had a flatline on it, it turned cheap nasty paint to soup, but if you use half decent paint like draxxus midnight, it should be fine, yes the tuneing has a little to do with it if i remember correctly the best FPS for it is 260 (correct me if i'm wrong) anyway hope this helps..
i miss my 98........i used to hug it at night
Ok, Can you recommend a response trigger?
And what is an expansion chamber?

do you use air or C02?
i believe fatbobs have a responce trigger for the 98c on their shop site.
it will be CO2, just checked out the response trigger and its 40 odd quid so il hold off on that for a bit, il stick with the double trigger!

c02 is ghey, save up and make HPA your first investment, you can get hpa bottle now for £40 on some sites, they will be more consistant and in turn more accurate as there will be no velocity spikes and you wont be pumping your 98c full of sh1tty co2 which leaves cr4p inside it after a while, then get a responce trigger for it, i had one on the tippmann A5 and it was brilliant.
you wont gain much from the double trigger mate so carry on saving for an upgrade youll notice when you fit it.
tuning wise the flatline performs best like omalley said below 260 fps which is adjusted on the side of the marker which takes 2 mins before a game, if velocity is higher than that you have more chance of barrel burst and also the distance the paintballs travel will get less and probally less accurate, the flatline is a bent barrel to put backspin on the ball there is an optimum FPS for this which youll find when you start playing but rule of thumb as above.

ok, i just got offered an A5 + flatline + regulator II for £150. It isnt the camo colour of the 98c that i was going to buy new, but it sure saves a hellava lot of cash :)
Is it a better investment?

yup better marker more compact in my opinion, more upgrades than practically any other gun and £150 is a reasonable price,BUT YOU COULD BUY AN ION FOR THAT MONEY WITH CHANGE WHICH WOULD BE FASTER SMALLER MORE ACCURATE AND DID I MENTION FASTER
Whats best for woodsball? Isnt the Tippmann better for woodsball whereas Ion are for tourneys?
Im more of a sneaky sneaky shot in the back rather than run through blaring close quarters style :o

flatlined tippmann a5's have got too be the loudest markers on the field i know iv had one they are louder than anything iv heard other than the cannons you get on the sides of war ships, flatlines are good for laying covering fire for your team while they move closer while your covering them and also for catching ppl out who think they are out of range, flatlines are also unaccurate however the range advantage they have over most other guns is definatley an advantage
both would make a good woodsball gun, black a5 or black ion your choice, but youd get a black ion for id say £100 with £50 left over for an HPA tank nuff said really
a5 = big, very hungry for air(unnafficiant) pretty pants consistancy, heavey like you wouldnt realise and its mechanical so not as fast as a ion, i love tippmann (kinda) me and my brothers have 3 between us and iv used each one at some point but given the choice id have a ion
my youngest brother has a 98c camo type and an ion, i dont think hes used th 98c in about 6 months!!!!!!!!!
Sorry im still new to all this, but you just mentioned its hungry on air? does that mean its not a CO2 gun?
A5 in question that im about to purchase.

you can use c02 but c02 isnt that great and most sites are swapping over to air now so getting co2 could be a waste of money anyway, hpa air bottle is £40 ish quid on some sites that is ya best bet, co2 leave a residue inside your gun which can cause problems and iirc damage orings which aint a good thing ;o)
A5's use alot of air this is called being a gashog lol i imagine the 98c is also, when i had mt A5 i had a 1.5 ltr bottle which is about the biggest you can get usually.
i think i have just seenthe stuff you are on about for sale on p8ntballer the 98c looks sweet and good value if you get the gun flatline, stock and remote line, but like i say unless your after the "milsim" look i think as will others other i imagine that a black ion a cheapish bottle and a second hand aggitator hopper will be a better choice as its faster more efficiant, lighter and smaller so less of a target for the same money £150
if i had to choose between that guys guns id get the 98c as it looks nearly brand new unlike the a5 which looks huhmm well used shall we say
Arrgh, so do i get that 98 or the A5 in question on p8ntballer, stealth 98c is brand new so thats a bonus! I really need to make my mind up! Im not keen on the Ion btw.

98c as it looks very new, try to get the remote line as well so you can put the air bottle on you back in a battle pack as it will be quite heavey if you attach it to the marker and a little cumbersome
