I have cross posted this in Walkonzone at: http://walkonzone.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=10599

Please see the following on the ownership and sale of airguns in Scotland. The ownership proposals are intended to make ownership only available through gun clubs/organisations etc. This applies to Scotland only, however the MP has stated he wishes to pursue a 'reverse Sewell' - meaning passing law in Scotland and it being effective throughout the whole UK.

Paintball falls within the legal definition of 'air weapons' and would fall within these propositions.

In addition there are statements that a clampdown has been intrduced UK wide since November. I can find no other trace so cannot find out if this relates to law, 'advice' or proposals. This is described as directed at car boots & corner shops but would effectivly apply to private sales such as through walkonzone.

Implications for McConnell's law

Not only has he decided to step in to reserved issues on his own accord, but he is being helped by the UK government, which is going to establish the principle of a so-called "reverse Sewel".

Airgun clampdown restricts sales (8 Nov 06)
FRESH curbs on the sale of airguns in the UK were introduced yesterday. Their sale is now effectively outlawed at car boot sales, corner shops and outlets not regulated by police.

"Paintball falls within the legal definition of 'air weapons' and would fall within these propositions"

I am sorry but on my reading of the law and the confirmation I have from the Home Office this is not correct (might be in Scotland - I don't have a copy of their laws) We use the air weapon laws to make sure paintball markers don't exceed current air weapon laws as this could make them firearms but this statment is the bit that then makes them different to air guns.

The key to everything is paintball markers fire a FRANGIBLE projectile unlike all other air weapons. Paintballs are designed to break on impact unlike air pellets that can penetrate the skin and could cause serious injury or even death.

Yes restrictions on sales of air weapons are now face to face only and restrictions on who can sell them are in force, similiar restrictions to soft air as well but they do not appply to paintball (although with this Government it could change later this week!!)
