View Full Version : Ionman Events
We have now booked up HPAC for the Ionman events and we will have trade stand from BZ Paintball. So things look like they will be busy. Also now we are part the NPC you get your £5 discount per member. www.ionman.co.uk.
The Ionman event for the 16th Sept is now being held on the 30th Sept as clashed with Bully's Staargate event.Seeing most of us will want to be playing that event rather than marshalling we have moved it back to the 30th Sept.
Sorry Bully for that mistake.
Some good news guys we have some promotion girls coming from Red Bull for the day ! This will be good as they are babes !
But on a serious note they are looking into getting some coverage from the media. So not only going to be a good event it is a good chance to get paintball in the publics eye !
Guys this event works out at £55 a head including a box of paint. If you pre order your paintballs. The price range for paint is £25 - £35 a box which will be good brands all kept in a heated room. This is a non profit making event, the more teams we get the more we will put back into the event. We will be holding between 3 or 4 of these events a year from now on. The more support we get the better. We can run up to 8 arenas at a time so can handle as many team as want to book in. The games are woodland based and will suit all styles of players. We have grab the flag games , mini scenarios and standard wood games. So you air ball players will stand a chance as well as woodball players and scenario players. Watch out for massive ad campaign in PBUK over next few months.
Please help support these events as there is not often you get an event putting everything it gets and more back into the event. Also the good thing about Newcastle upon Tyne is the night life ! So if you want to have a good weekend out and make a weekend you'll remember that is great. We also have deals with mini bus companies so if your team comes by train, plane or your staying in Newcastle the night before and had a little drink, we can get you to site and back for around £6 / head.
It is confirmed the raffle prize is a G7 Fly new and boxed, other prizes inc £1000 in cash 5 ion guns, 5 boxes of paint and free game play for the future.
If you don't win the event you all have a good chance of an amazing prize.
As we said these events aren't here for the profit and the prices are not inflated with it not being a bring your own.
Sponsored teams can bring own paint but a surcharge of £75 per team applies.
Standard cost is £40 / head (5 man teams) inc 500 balls. Extra 1500 = £15 if booked in advance. £5.00 / Head discount for NPC members.
BZ / smartparts Trade stand on site and Red Bull Promotional team.
This is going to be a massive event ! 15 plus teams already coming to first event !
"Teams will be played against their relevent skill level. Prizes are available "
"£1000 minium CASH PRIZES FOR WINNING Rec ball pro ball teams !"
Can you please clarify, is this the highest division prize? Seems a stupid question but due to the fact there are 5 Ion's for winning Newbie team, just wanted to make sure before i drag some people up :)
Thanks in advance...
£1000 is for the rec ball players and above so main prize. The Ions are for newbie teams so they can advance up to rec ball games. Going to be a complete mix of woodball games so will be fun for all.
Raffle prizes are for anyone so if you don't win event you have a chance of winning a big prize still.
Oh kit hire for standard players inc Inferno is now just £5 and for rec ballers £15 inc Ion. For an extra £15 you can have a brand new Proto mask to take home and pair of armoured gloves.
Ok after a few threads about car park safety we will be putting a member of Staff on car parking duty for the Ionamn Events and hopefully put of any thief from attempting a smash and grab.
OK guys just another up date on this event as you already know basic entrance is £40 per head (£5 discount for NPC members) inc 500 paintballs. If you pre book your next 1500 balls the cost is £55 inc 2000 balls !! (£5 discount for NPC members)
£5 kits hire for the day if you are entering novice players.
Anyways the news is if we reach 40 teams we are adding a Custom Karnivor to the raffle prizes !! See photo !
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q225/shadlad/karnie.jpg
Should we reach 50 the prize money will be increased to £1500 !
Lets make this event the biggest woodland event we can !

that marker is soooo sweet, good luck by the way
luke
Yup that one is mine, but i'll order a brand new one for the evemt if we reach the numbers. As we have said all along what we make goes back into the events !
News in today the event on the 15th April is going to be covered by PBUK !! So getting bigger and bigger by the day !!
Ok folks the rules to the event have been listed on the website ! www.ionman.co.uk
Hey, just lookin for a little clarification please if you don't mind.
"The tounament is an open event to all players over the age of 14, from novice to semi-Pro. Teams will be played against their relevent skill level. Prizes are available"
By what would you define semi-pro?
Basically novice players are new players with mech guns or borrowing site guns. Rec ballers and teams are next stage up (teams) allowed to be sponsored etc.
I actully meant in the opposite direction, at what level would u be unable to enter?
By what would you define semi-pro?
Well Al I would surmise if I a player had played top level in the Millennium Series or was classed as pro in the World Cup.
They would NOT be classed as semi pro............;)
Russ
Basically it is not the type of event olly laing would play. It is for a level that people can all enjoy. Novice players are kept seperate any player who plays above the standard site level plays above this.

Why not make the morning self seeding for finals in the afternoon, it's how it used to be done and saves all confusion.
At lot of teams are looking at this and are thinking they could come down use there ninja skills, win the event, take the cash and sod of home.
Is that a bad thing! not sure if it is myself, lets get them playing woodland, a lot of them have never played with a tree on the same field so let them experience it.
How about an open division with a separate winner takes all package, you may get more than you think.
Russ
What we are trying to do is bridge the gap between punters and rec ballers. Basically the NPC idea, so we are going to see what responce we get and who books in, before we make all final cast in stone plans. The plan is to make the event an event that novice players can come to and watch good players play, with out being on the end of a punter hunter's gun. It also gives them a chance to act more like a rec baller than a customer. The marshals won't be gassing their guns in the middle of a game or cleaning them. It will be down to the customer to make sure he has the marshal on air filling, fill his gun before the game. Wipe the paint out his hopper and clean the bigfat balls out the breach himself if he picks them off the floor.
The event will have some fields people won't be use to and others they hav played. There is also another 8 fields planned over the year for the september events. So basically each time you come there is different games and fields to be played. The event will build and build and the money made goes back into these events. We only plan 3 or 4 events a year and these are planned to hopefully run along with Genesis and NPC days elsewhere. People need to know that woodsball is back and that 2007 is going to a big year for it. We also need to show the likes of Sup Air players that they need to back these type of events. As half the novice players we get will go onto air and half on to woods. Woodsball and Supair need to agree that anyone who picks up a paintball marker can make the "sport" bigger and stronger.
The fact that I see more and more guys playing both types of paintball pleases me and I hope it is a line more and more people take.
Basically if you like Genesis you will like these events !! A lot of the teams from Genenis are already booked into the event. Only difference on teams is there will be a lower group for the likes of normal woodland guys to play in. (Ions as prizes) so that they can progress onto the level of genesis players and hopefully become involved at the likes of Genesis.
Well Al I would surmise if I a player had played top level in the Millennium Series or was classed as pro in the World Cup.
They would NOT be classed as semi pro............;)
Russ
That's okay then cos we played the open division at the World Cup... ;)
Plus im on a semi-pro roster this year... so... i think that counts :D
Lol it is in a general terming .... would it be better to say people have played a while and people who have just started ? Lol

Touché on the open division comeback, but did you play something a few days before-hand :)
But it matters not Al, you will lose (oh and Edwards is signed up for the Lions its in his blood) but I may find you a spot as a guest.........
Looking forward to this.
Russ
Ok there seems some confusion about the skill levels on this event ! It is not complex at all un like air ball. If you have just started playing and learning paintball enter at novice. If you own guns and have played a few games enter the next level. It is not going to be pro players wiping everyone out. It is woodland based games ! A bit of everything thing for everybody
Guys lets get the rest of the teams that have said they are coming to these events booked in as soon as possible. The more we know about earlier rather than later the more chance we have of increasing the prizes. Also the more teams booked into this events the more fileds we will be playing ( so need to book a load of marshals in for the event). www.ionman.co.uk and booking number 0870 141 7490

SHHHHH!!! lol
Edwards is a traitor!!!! :(
Ah well...
Well folks we had 25 promotion staff from Red Bull come from all over the country to play at the site today to get a feel what it is like before the event. They have had meetings in London and are very very interested in getting more involved in these events. They are going to be testing the water with this event and backing it as much as they can at the startand looking at media coverage. The more people we can get into these events the more they are looking at getting involved. Having a name like Red Bull backing events like this is only doing the "sport" good.
We are aiming here to show people paintball in the woods can be played at a competitive level while still having fun. Paintball isn't all about making money as we are trying to show from these events. Lets make the event something special, get the sport on the local news and get more people interested in playing at a higher stage than just a customer level.
Has a decision been made on how the prize money will be paid out.

Just a quick question, we (Rule13) are relativley new team, infact the Genesis tournament last month was our first taste of competitive paintball. Obviously we have never competed in a Ion man tourney so does this class us as newbies? I mean all our team members have electro markers and our own kit but which catergory would we be competeing in? I know there are different skill levels but can anyone suggest which level we would be best entering?
By the way this all sounds really positive, especailly the stuff with Red Bull, and can surely only make competetive woodland paintball stronger! :)
Not yet Russ just getting a view on what people think. Also hoping that the teams like yours get booked in so we know if there is extra prize money.
Rule 13 you'd be in the rec ball players as played ok on the genesis. The novice is really just the likes of site punters.
Don't forget there are raffle prizes as well so even if you don't win main events there is a chance you couldwalk away with a angel G7 fly !! and more !!
So guys give me some info on what you lot would like to see out of a woodlands event.
1) Games
2) Format
3) How prize money shared etc
Basically fire ideas and we'll keep building the Ionman event up and try adding what you want !

Cheers for that, i did think that to be honest, it was the fact that the newbies can rent out inferno's for the day! I only noticed this after i posted lol. Anyway i know we definitely want to be involved with an Ion man tourney, just not sure which one yet?? We have so many events coming up!!! :D
Yeah but look at the value of this event and the fact it will get you NOC points.
Ok we will now have even more air on site as will have a new trailer and have a 600 litre a minute compressor system fitted !! So going to not run out and have big queues !!

1) Standard 2 flag, min field size 100m x 50M
2) Self seading morning with finals in the afternoon
3) I would much prefer that there was no prize money. Prize money will spoil the games (it always did). You have made a huge investment in an air system. I would much rather see you make some money and re invest it into future tournaments.
The prize money has been invested as it has got Red Bull interested in the event. Hopefully if this event goes well they will arrange media coverage and more. They have already sent 23 promotion girlls from all over the country to play the venue and had meetings in London regarding it. So need to have a good turn out as this kind of interest in paintball is good for us all !
So is your team def coming then Andy ?
and who else is up for it ?

Hi guys looking foward to nexts months ion man tourny should be good. Played site before on a walk on day and the games are top class. see you there in on the 15th april
Ok folks the way the prize money will be divided will be done in the following way ! Every team that enters will be given a vote at the start of the event and the winning vote gets the split. As I have said all along this event is about giving back to you the paintballer. So for it to be a success you guys need to have some say in how it is run. Talks with Red Bull are looking good and they are interested in calling the event "The Red Bull Ionman Event".
Lil Wenlock is looking at trying to come to the April event if him and his team can get transport from the Midlands. Looking at either sharing the costs of a mini bus or helping with fuel costs. If you fancy the event, hire a 16 seater bus and you'll be able to get 3 teams up pretty cheap. Be a little cramped with space but well worth it and you help out a fellow baller and his team !
Ok some news just been decided for these events. You can bring your own paint at no extra costs ! All that will happen is you will not be given your 500 free ammo per player.
Ok some news just been decided for these events. You can bring your own paint at no extra costs ! All that will happen is you will not be given your 500 free ammo per player.
So you wont be giving them a surcharge of £75.00 for them using paint you can not make a profit on but I assume they still want you to offer the prize fund! Obviously someone is putting pressure on you, Chris you are being stupid, tell them to sod off if they don't like it.
If anyone is telling you they have to shoot a particular brand tell them you will have that available, if they say they can not afford to play without using "free" sponsored paint - well if they can not afford to pay the supplement do you really want them involved, they are not worth the trouble and grief.
I would very happily support the event if it ONLY gave prize money to teams who purchased paint from the organisers and the rest got the same as they would at every other event, bragging rights that last till the gate on the way out.
Russ.
Well it is also to encourage people to get behind these events more. I am really wanting to get the interest from Red Bull built up to back the events more and more. Binging the likes of Red Bull into paintball will only help more and more to getting this game known as a sport ! It is also good if we can build up the NPC and then try encouraging Red Bull etc to back and set up promotion stands at more and more events.

I think that we all admire the idea - just a few sensible people realise that you need to make a profit to be able to provide the funds for the prizes. People like Red Bull also want to know that they are backing a growing sporting event... if you don't show a profit, how will your business plan and that of Red Bull's stay valid...
To be honest I am prepared to loose money on the first few events. As I am not setting out to make money on these events. I am wanting to build up an event that give something back and encourages them to try woodland tournies. Also getting people backing them is good.

WANTED: 2 novice players to make a team for the 1st Ion Man event on 15th Apirl. We have 3 so far, all novice with own Tippmann 98s. Putting the word out so if you know anyone, give's a shout!
Thanks dudes.
Looks like there is going to be a few people around to make up teams if you fancy a game. Also remember raffle prize is a G7 Fly so even if you don't win the event you stand a good chance of a great prize.
Heard a lot of you teams from Genesis are planning on coming, list up who is please. Also Andy you decided if your team is coming ?

Go on - who won... what were the scores... some of us were baking in Elsham... I now look like a 6ft tomato!
The Manchester Lions won with "teabag" in runner up position and Fat Bobs Fusion in third.
At the start of the last round of games any of those top three teams could have won.
There was eight teams in the league and to give everyone game time it was decided to give all teams an extra couple of games so they played the first two teams they played at the start of the day again.
As much as I appreciated the extra games I think it is unfair that the score should be counted towards the final position, let me explain.
After everyone has played a round robin the winner of the day should have been decided at that point, instead we had to go out and play Fusion who we had drawn with at the first round, and I think that the draw affected the end result in that because we was fortunate in winning our second game it took fusion out of the running for second place.
Don't get me wrong you can only play who is in front of you but I think a fairer way to have the extra games would have seeded it so it would end up with 1v8 2v7 3v6 4v5.
Fat bobs Fusion deserved something more than third place (and I mean absolutely no disrespect to Teabag).
Russ
I agree Russ, and those final 2 games definately affected who placed where although im not sure if the lions dropped points in either of those 2 but i know Fat bobs did and so did we (teabags).
Anyway, it was a great day and I thought there was some very good paintball being played. Looking forward to hopefully seeing a few more teams at the next one.

it was a great day (not just the winning), everything was spot on. the site was a bit of a trek for us mancs, but well worth the drive. the team area was fantastic with all the facillities, the food was nice, the factor 30 was on my nappa, couldn't fault much at all. out of the 4 fields we played i wasnt keen on the dark one and the one with just trees ( no baracades). the others were sound. thanks for a top day to all behind the event, especially to the lads from universal shadows who are a top bunch of lads and im looking forward to playing against soon

got to agree with col on that 1 the fields were spot on some of the best i have played on in a long while ...thought the field with only trees was back to the old days well impressed..
