Sorry Shadlad, this is probably an obvious answer to most but which team do you play for again? Are you part of the Shadows team? Just trying to put names to teams and then hopefully one day these names to faces!! :p

22-03-2007, 14:26
LOL!!! I missed that sorry:)

Yeah i think we played you last?? U were down to 4 players?? Some how you managed to win even though we shot one out right at the start so it was effectively 3 on 5!! Very well played.

Think that victory gave u the win on the whole day i think??

Yeah not to bad we got stuffed in one game and i mean stuffed god knows what we were doing in it lol. But not about the winning to us it is about the fun side of the events. But having said that !

Andy were still owed a best sporting team cup from your YPC day last year and 2 cups from last event LOL

Joking a side it is good to have the trophies to put on display at the site so that people can see what the site team does. It also shows them what they can play for and events they can take part in !

Talk of which Bully if you have some fliers for this event or next we can hand them out on site on next walk on or the Ionman events.

Cheers Chris

The Manchester Lions won that contest as well:)

Chris's team were a bunch of Muppet's less than six months ago and it is credit to them all that they stopped taking loads of paint to the field and learned how to play, and because of that have become a serious threat to any team playing them.
At the last event one of the players on their second team bunkered one of my players on the break! the mad bas*&^d:eek:
Crazy fool maybe, but it could have ended up with a win for them.

A bunch of muppets how charming lol I think it had the fact that only 2 of us had played a tourny before that first game as well (Tony 7 years previous and me 5years). Still trying to get our old team back as then we'd have some fun.
Would not mind there should be enough of us to field 3 main teams and 2 spare teams. We'll get them motivated one day !

But at least one team gets to enter and play what is going to be a fantastic Genesis Event as normal ! Seeing I won't see you all at this event I hope I will see you all at the Ionman event on the 15th instead.

Great day... good marshalling, good playing... generally a great day. I totally enjoyed that new field - King Arthurs Quest... quite challenging and tactical game... sort of a cross between sup air and woodsball... I guess it should be called either a sup ball or a wood air field... Definate thumbs up to Bully and the marshalls who created that field. - stonka!

Anyway - first day out with Destiny for me today... The Destiny Woodzmen finally made a mark... and I believe we came in fourth... Not bad for a team that never played before!

A player goes hot over the chronograph and as the rules dictate is not allowed to take his gun on field - no problem with that.
Before the game starts I realize I need that player to do a job and naturally he needs a gun to do it, I look round the team to decide who I am going to tell to give up their gun.
I opt that mine is the one we can lose on this game if I tweak the game plan a little bit so I pass mine to the player and get ready to start.
Game begins and within a few seconds I am told that I am out of the game because I have passed my gun to the player, the refs are wrong and I know it, what do I do, I and the other player are out of the game, do I complain after the game and nothing would get done or do I take all my players off the field (remember only a few seconds game time had passed).
I know what will happen if the game carries on and we win, and if I am honest I suspect we still would have - Sod all and I was not in the mood to except that.
And what if we lost? why should I risk the loss of a tournament because the ref cocked up because they decided to use the rules they wanted, not the Organizer.
By not playing I gave the team the opportunity to replay the game if it was necessary at the end, it was not required so did not get played.
Dummy spitting, not me I just want us all to use the same rules -

I should have added as Andy did it was a great day, still not sure what to make of "Merlin's" field we played in the afternoon even though we won all our games on there.
I liked the field we all played in the morning because it had no obvious way to play it and it allowed some sneaky play with crawling in use every game.
I must admit I do like big woodland fields with a few barricades on and there is no shortage of those at Wakefield, Bully hinted he may move one of the events to Elsham and that will bring back some memory's from a few years ago.

Fair play the Marshalls got it wrong but in all fairness you should have carried on, I mean if it had been the other way round we would have carried on, walking off the field in any sport is not acceptable! Whether it’s Rugby, Football or anything, walking off is just not the way to do it!

As you said you think you could have possibly still won?? You should have given the remaining players a chance to continue and win the game and basically come through in the face of adversity! I mean you will probably never have that situation again and it would have given you the chance to see how your players reacted to the situation!! It would have taken lots of character to turn around a game like that, now you will never know if they could have done it??

At the end of the day I see it as an opportunity missed for your remaining players to have a great story! You had decision’s go against ya but you still came through it and won!! I know if it was me and our team went down to three (Unfairly) and still won, I would have been proud and rightly so.

Also what about respect to your opposition, we paid to play yesterday and lets face it, it aint a cheap day out! That game lasted all of 2 minutes, so please tell me what did we get out of it? Ok yeah we got the points after you decided not to play us but to be honest I would prefer to be beaten off every team there, then ever be given points! It’s just embarrassing, being given the win and no matter what happened or how unfair it was, you will never convince me that walking off the field is the best way to deal with things!

Respect for the opposistion..... always, but expecting me to carry on with a game that was only a few seconds old when a MAJOR mistake had happened - not going to happen. It could have very easily had been rectified and the game restarted with no loss of time to the schedule but they did not want to do it.
The only recourse I had was to see the Organizer to get it sorted and he agreed with every point I had made.
I am not anti refs at all and as for walking of a field, if the game had made some progress (IE: anyone had been shot etc) I doubt I would have made the same decision.
All I wanted to do was have a fair game, and that in this case a restart with the refs being made aware of the rules we were playing would have done it.
Lets be honest, the only reason I play woodsball is because it does not have any of the idiots playing that unfortunately sup-air attracts and I do not want to be the guy who brings it into the game.
I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the day, the friendship between the teams but when that game starts, I want the team I am playing for to win just like everyone else.
And if the same thing happened to any team playing against me I would happily restart.

Its all about the fair game!!!!!

Russ

Russell
02-04-2007, 12:23
In paintball if a team mistakingly breaks early the refs stop the breakout and restart the game, why because thats fair, they dont just pull everyone out as they could do if they wanted to. And it would have been as quick and simple as that.

Russ

Kitch Rule13

Russ, I don’t deny anything that you are saying, but those circumstances are a little different. I mean we are talking about 2 seconds or summot for a false start. We were at least 2 minutes into our game and we had even shot one of your team members out in that time!

I must confess at the time I didn’t really know what had gone on. And now I know the facts your spot on to complain, but for me abandoning the game should never happen! The only time its ever acceptable is if there is a serious injury to a player.

In doing this it allows teams to question officials and take similar actions that you did in the future. Now obviously at the time you knew that it was a bad call, but what are we saying? I mean if a player gets pulled out for spray in a game that’s a bad call, not the same situation but technically that player is still in so therefore it’s a breach of rules when he’s forced to come out. I totally respect everything you have said and I agree with it 100 % but I just think a walk off shouldn’t be an option, no matter what.

This is just my opinion though, like you said you had to make a decision quickly and that’s what you felt like you had to do, of course you just want fair play and your actions were based honest grounds, which I respect. There are rights on wrongs for both sides but for me the out come of yesterdays shenanigans were disappointing, I mean you allowed us to have the victory rather then us having earned it, I don’t know if you can understand what I am trying to say but there it is.

Wasnt it the uk refs making the decision? If so should they not be trusted, been the finest refs of the uk?

If a player has a hot gun, he should have to live with the consequences, and not be able to pass on the responsibility. Seems fair to me.

gcrule13
02-04-2007, 17:03
good call kitch think ur bang on with ur comments bro.
i was also stopped from using my marker in that game because my marker was also hot, even though i wasn't happy with the refs decision i took it and played unarmed because if ur team wins and u stay alive, thats extra points for ur team.
i know u are responsable for ur own air bottle and think that should be the case with ur marker also. if ur marker is hot its ur problem and you pay the price.
i know the refs made some calls that upset a few teams/players, but you just have to deal with it, respect there call and try not to put ur self in that situation again.

Looks like another early retirement!!!

Never played sup-air but think I get the gist

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to early retirement (The Genesis Woodsball series is wot it should have been in the good old days - just remember to check any attitude problems at the site entrance!)

I'd be "spreading the word" on the P8ntballer forums right now but (I'd echo biscuit's comments but my membership is fecked and attempts to contact the mods haven't yielded a reply)

Do me a favour - tell the wider world how much fun this series is?

Thank you guys for all comments, good and bad. It will all be taken onboard and used to iron out any problems. Regarding the hot gun gaffe, as I calmly said to Russ and Bully, if I had cocked up I am big enough to admit any mistakes I make as a ref, (although admit it Russ, there aren't that many)!!! I am also man enough to apologise for any mistakes and with that I said to both that if a replay was to go ahead I would have been the first to apologise and also have been the first ref back on the field to get the game done. But, what I honestly find a bit smug if I am honest about it, is to be told a bit loudly "Don't tell me the rules, I wrote them". It's just as bad as Gary Shows calling out to Russ "Do you know who I am" isn't it Russ;)

This is the problem with paintball not just in the UK, but worldwide. It is the only "sport" in the world with a variety of rulebooks. Hence it not being recognised anywhere in the world as a sport, but accepted as a hobby. Just in the UK alone this year, as a ref , I could end up reffing no fewer than four sets of rules. The PA rulebook, which as people know will this year will be X Ball rules, the UK Masters rules ("modified" Millenium rules which get modified from game to game), the actual Millenium rules which make the complete works of Tolstoy look tame by comparison, and if it goes ahead, the Euro 5 man, again modified Millenium rules.

Then in the States you have got the PSP rules, NPPL rules, XSPL rules, CFOA, NCPA. See where it is going? This is one of the reasons why until the paintball community worldwide gets a grip of itself and unites to set out ONE set of rules that are workable in all event series the whole world over, outside sponsors won't even give us the time of day. And me as a ref can potentially have 3000 different bloody paintball rules bouncing around inside my head. And I can assure you there isn't that much room in here to begin with!!! Iwould have included the Asian paintball series and the Euro paintball series but they use "versions" of the Millenium rules, which use 3 pages to define ramping when Russ managed to do it with one sentence

Good day, i liked the new playing fields. but with regards to ref decisions i think they should have the final word. No arguing with them i didnt like some decisions made that day but they were made and we got on with it.

We want to keep the genesis tournament a woodland tournament and not sup'air or x ball etc etc so lets keep the game of two five man teams playing against each other in the games zones we all prefer to play in with out all the excess crap that has been corrupting the other games for so long.

so to stop any kind of intimidation of the ref/ marshalls (not always proper marshalls some guys stand in to make up numbers on the day), or to influence the out come of a game the refs decision has to be final, end of story. Take it as you win some you lose some and if you cant play fair..........play sup'air

Mac.
03-04-2007, 12:01
thats an unfair statement - the level that i play sup' air at is fair. there are gonna be wingers and cheaters in all aspects of any sport/hobby.

and are you saying that all people who play sup' air dont play fair - cos i know i do - i also enjoy woodland paintball and when i have spare cash i come and play it

Jimmy
03-04-2007, 13:14
I have marshalled genesis, and I know there is cheating going on there as well as sup air, just because people play in the woods dosn't make them any less likely to cheat, they just may not be able to pull it off aswell as some of the high level sup air players.

TinFish
03-04-2007, 13:19
Ive only played 2 Genesis Tourneys and ive seen blatant cheating at both events. Not very much though i must add.

Ant UK Refs
03-04-2007, 14:37
Tell you what, the main forms of cheating in Sup Air are basically wiping and playing on. Back in the day before bouncy bunkers, those that did the EPSF refs course had their eyes realy opened as to what players were actually getting away with, and those that did the course will agree with what I am saying. I would go into detail, but I am not gonna give any of you vagabonds any ideas!!!

The only reason Sup Air players have such a bad reputation is because it's there for all to see. In the woods you can sod off and hide it, or so you think. One thing I did see on Sunday was one of the Venom guys try to slide into the roots of a fallen tree. He would have made it had it not been for the hefty 3 inch high tree stump that stopped him knee first. OUCH.

Broken92
03-04-2007, 17:29
Cheating has been going on since the game began, it's up to you the individual to choose if you want to par-take in it or not.

Ant, I thought you guys did a great job on Sunday.

Lets remember this is paintball, as someone aptly put it on Sunday, and I quote "Paintball, it's driven by money and bullshit."

Glad to see nothings changed in 20 years then :)

Thats why you are one of the best refs in the country, and it was also the reason why it got me so naffed off, you should have known better, because I more than others know how good you are.
Ant, the reffing on Sunday had on hand some of the most established and experienced refs this country has ever produced so I did not expect to be on the receiving end of a rule mistake.
I fully agree with you on the multiple sets of rules we all have to understand and you was the first to admit your mistake so I thank you for that.
In return I, me, myself most defiantly should have known better, but when that bloody game starts I only want to win and you risked that with your decision and I reacted accordingly be it unwise, foolish or just stupid - all the descriptions have a fair claim but I know there was nothing personal in your decision so, all friends again...... as we was in the pub come to think of it - I got the round in.:)

I think Ant and Gillie and some of the other refs whose names I dont know (sorry) called the day well. There are some Refs who had an obvious personal problem with some people and whats said on here is influencing the tournaments which is absolutley rediculous. That stays here I dont need to talk about that further. As for the decision on the hot marker or marker swaping- I listened to the ref and carried on as they said.. at the end of the day I have played sport since being a kid, I have played at very high levels and I know as does everyone else who has respect for the sport they play, the Ref has the final say.. get on with it. Yet Russ happens to be right in this case as he "wrote" the rules the Ref still called it how he seemed fit and he is an official ref. But all that aside the amount of swearing would of put Some teams in the minus figures... I got nailed for calling a team mate a Naughty word for taking the last kill after me running the length of the field.... this was for fun and not aggressive yet I was penalised... its a shame the players that challanged the Refs in the hot marker incident were not penalised the same way I was... then again that were that many it would of been hard to keep count. It was embaressing guys, I felt embaressed watching it.

Im not taking anything away from the official Refs... again well done..awesome reffing. But the players NEED to start showing respect for the Refs and the aggressive language needs to stop even if your best friends with the ref or not it has to stop. If it doesnt it has a knock effect and the Refs get aggressive back. As for the walking off the field incident.... Am I missing something? Are we playing for thousands of pounds? Do we become world champions at the end? Or is it a woodland tournament for people who enjoy paintball? Simply no need to walk off field, I know some of the players wanted to Carry on!

Actually Kenny you are quite wrong. When you signed the score sheet for that particular game, I pointed out a minus 50 for Russ's effing and blinding, which when pointed out to Russ what he said to me back in the safe zone, he simply smiled and said that if he did tell me to "go away rather quickly" then he deserved the penalty on the grounds of ref abuse. In your game, even though it was your last game of the day you stated rather loudly in the presence of spectators that your team mate was adept at wrist exercises;) now, Fair play to you, you accepted the penalty points , we shook hands and us refs got on with the last game of the day.

My point is this, if I penalise one team for a rule infringement, then each and every single team will be treated exactly the same. I know I speak for all the UK Refs when I say that we have reffed the very best in the world, and we have reffed some of the worst in the world (by that I most definately don't imply any of the players that were playing on Sunday), but every single team is treated with same amount of respect and professional courtesy that they quite rightly deserve and we'd rather quit reffing altogether, thus missing out on some trips of a lifetime, than show favour to one team over another.

Yes it has been a busy week running games on site and wondering if we run anymore tournaments or leaving it to let the teams run the events as they all know best - so I will supply the site and let the teams run the event - NEW idea.

Destiny Woodzmen 355

Nah - I suggest a habenero feast - 6 different types, increasing in heat each one, starting off with the Thai Birds eye chilli  That should have a dramatic effect - We may even be treated to the once in a lifetime event, witnessing a member of Venom break the 10sec 100m dash to the portaloo! :D
