well basically i have just come back from my sixth time paintballing with friends for parties etc and have decided i rearlly want to continue with paintballing as a hobbie and am sick of cheaters. would love to play with people who generally love the sport but not sure where to start rearlly. so am hoping you guys can help me.

obviously i need to start with some kit etc.

ill try and answer the questions that you seem to ask and a few of me own.
from what i have read air is the way forward over co2.
1. Is it just more expensive for HPA kit initially? or is refilling more expensive than co2? so is it just the initial cost that is the problem.
2. initialy i will start with walk on days once a month at various locations around northamptonshire but in the future i would like to move onto tournament play and hopefully join a team etc (long way off i know).
3. not rearlly got a budget yet but nothing to extravagant.

my obvious 1st problem is kit. i can deal with the safety features but a marker is the problem. as ive read around the forum and there is such a vast choice. i dont want one i will need to replace as soon as i get more experienced. more would prefer something that is going to work everywhere until i rearlly decide to go hardcore (tournaments etc) or something that can be upgraded to the spec needed.

Also is there any groups or people around northamponshire that can help me to get started and maybe introduce me better to the hobbie side of the sport? and just some friendly advice at where to start?.

PMR (proto matrix rail): not used one but know a hell of a lot of people who have, and they all give good reviews. that, and they've also fallen in price to be cheaper than newer guns that still aren't as good as they are.

alright mate
1 its not really the price of refilling its the fact that co2 is cheaper but can mess your gun up if its electric and tends to spike in velocity. hpa which is more expensive but is a lot more consistent and a lot better for your gun
2 you would be best going to walkons once a month to get a feel for it
3 i would say get a pmr they fast cheap and are easily upgradeable but you would need to run it off hpa
hope that helps

tbh with you running it off HPA isnt a problem i dont mind paying the extra initially atall. i know its a lil more complicated system but hoping ill work it out!

here's how i got started with balling. to start with i didn't buy any kit just went to walkon's and asked the site operator really nicely if i could rent some kit. as the days went on i'd ask other players if i could have a shot with their gun and that way i found the one that i thought was right for me.
i'd advise any new player who is new to the recreational side of the sport to do it this way but i would say get a decent mask before you go to your first walkon.

exactly what i did ... buy a good pair of goggles, etc and that'll give you something to keep playing with. Then find out your most local walk on site (not sure how close you are but sabotage paintball is in milton keynes and im sure if you ask paul really nicely he'll sort you out with some rental stuff) and then play using rental gear. most guys are nice and will let you fire some paint through their guns (...most :p) and you'll get really good advice and go home pretty much sorted with what you're going to get.
Welcome to paintball :D

do it in snippets buy something that is inexpensive but vital goggles/pack and work from there that way you learn about the way you play thus learning what you need.this will help you spend little money and help you realise your passion for the sport. worked on me:D

the jt proflex is my personal mask of choice.
best bet for the mask is to go to your local store and see if they have any you can try on to find out which mask you feel most comfortable wearing.

As paint magnet says, go down to a shop and have a try... some will fit better than others... just get one with a thermal lens so you don't steam up :)

Hi Folks, this is my first real post but also wanted to introduce myself.

Wigs, it seems you are in a similar situation to what I was up until Saturday when I bought what I need for coming to walk-ons. I’d like to add how much information is available from the forum and just how friendly everyone here seems to be.

I’ve only played once then a just over a year later decided to take the plunge and with help from here and with the help of Fat Bob’s Paintball shop near York.

The first thing I needed to find out was where locally-ish can I play? What kind of games are played and at what sites. Bearing this in mind I was able to work out what is best.

Should you venture up to Yorkshire I can’t recommend anyone higher than speaking with Tony at Fat Bob’s. I was there on Saturday and was put at ease about what I needed. I got a great deal including the marker (gun) goggles etc and didn’t need to sell a kidney or two regarding the cost. Although I have not used the kit this is what I have:

Goggles: JT Thermal Flex 8
Marker: Proto SLG
Hopper: Empire Reloader
Air bottle: HPA kind

They are just the main things but included in the deal was the battle back, pots and air bottle cover. So if anyone is going to have put Tony out of business it was me ;-)

Hope I’ve done the right thing with my purchases and Wigs hope this helps any?
Cheers,
Alan.

aye nice one bud, i must say after joining the forum here i have learnt so much and rearlly cant wait to get out there.

would love to take a trip up north but weekdays are best options for me to be ventureing up there. i may still take a day out and pop up to me beloved leeds and pop and see the big boys at fat bobs. (not saying your fat but i have heard you like donuts)
