Hi im new to paintball as a whole having played a few rental games at my local paintball centre i have realy caught the bug and i now want to take it a little further.

Having seen what some of the guys there can do with a marker i realy want to get my own gear. I bought a new mask when i visited last a PROTO SWITCH EL i think witch i upgraded with a chrome thermal visor from fatbobs.

Now i would like to buy a marker for witch i have a budget of about £200 for marker and hopper and tank.

I have read alot of reviews on many different markers and carnt seem to make my mind up so im asking the experts ie YOU.

I play soley at my local paintball centre in cosford near wolverhamton in the midlands witch is a wood type not sure on the lingo so im not sure if that changes the type of marker that i need but at 6ft 4inch and 21 stone i need something quite robust as i have tendency to throw myself abit

Any help would be gratefully recieved

Thanks

well it depends on your style, are you wanting something like a speedball marker or a replica style marker?

does you site use air or Co2?
If air, for a little over £200, maybe £250 you could pick up an slg, halo B and a steely air tank (in my opinion is the best choice for the money)

If you're only looking at Co2 get a vibe, Co2 and the maybe something like an empire reload 2 hopper?

Also you need to take into account :
- Pack
-pods
- pants, jersey (or an overrall for woods)
- and all the little it bitty thngs, squeegee etc :p

Hope it helps

Thanks for the quick response my style i would say would be woods so i would say replica maybe not realy sure.

On the clothing front thats already taken care of and got a pack and pods from a friend who got some new ones.

But im not sure on what my local paintball centre runs on its warped paintball in cosford i think its most likely co2 as there rental markers are tippman 98c so i guess co2.

But it does have to be robust as i am a big guy with a tendancy to break things

Thanks

from what ive heard, the vibe and sp-1 (a vibe in a military styled shell) is pretty hardwearng and robust and from what i've seen and heard they're a lot better choice than the typical tippy 98 or another mechanical gun ... you may want to look at the a5 as well, as thats got a clever hopper with it ;)

Dexter
17-03-2008, 15:22
well i would recommend an sp1 or sp8 if your going to be using air or a tippman a5 or x7 if your going to be using co2 as these should be more compatible (i think) and they can be upgrade to look more like the real thing :D

Niall W
17-03-2008, 15:31
the sp1 and the vibe have the maxflo reg (or something like that :p) so they are fully comptible with Co2 ;) ... up to you, but with the new crackdown on replica style markers seems to me like its a better option to go for the vibe ... but its your choice mate :)

If its woodland paintball it could be tournament paintball in the woods or scenario... If its scenario you will be looking at the more military looking markers... Tippmanns and SP1s if its woodland tournament you want to play look for anything smaller with a higher rate of fire. Smart Parts Ion, Eteks..

Yeah, i agree ... you can use tourny guns in the woods, but yuo'll be outshot majorly if you try to use a tippmann etc on a supair field if you ever wish.
I'm pretty sure theres some people on here who have vibe's etc that can give you 1st hand experience :)

Thanks for all the responses i think i may go for the vibe but i do have another question if i do get a vibe is it better to furnish it with realy good parts hopper bottle ect or will it being a low budget model not make any difference and i may aswell follow the low budget theme for the bottle and hopper ?

Thanks

the vibe can do 11bps, so theres not really much point spending £60 on a hopper that can do 30bps +, unless you want to keep, and then to put on you next marker. air, anythng will do, if you cant afford a fibre wrapped get a steely although you'll end up upgrading when you hae the money anyway :p.
But you said you only had access to Co2 didnt you?
you may also want to look at a new barrel (freak system, dye ultralight, lucky un1tec) seem to be the best options in my opinion.
Phone up your site and ask about the air situation

is the correct gun http://www.fatbobspaintball.co.uk/p833/Smart_Parts_Vibe/product_info.html

If so it does say that it take both HPA and co2 so i guess its good so i can start with co2 for the cheapness and upgrade to HPA when i get a little more cash together and figure out if my paintball centre does HPA aswell as co2

Thanks

My advice if you have the cash is to whack a decent hopper on there, and a decent air system, if you upgrade its just yet another expense, hoppers and air will mostr likely be the things you change the least (i've had 3 hoppers(ish) (1 died, 1 is fine, 1 is in bits!)) 1 air system and I'm on my 4th marker never had hopper trouble, apart from when a motor fried my board, never had air trouble, still the same system I used with my Timmy.

In shoort it's better to splash a bit on air and a hopper for your first so when you upgrade you don't have to mess around gettingh new ones and can plow more cash in to your gat!

very true .. if you have the money get good hopper and air as if you buy cheap you'll end up spending double in the end when you decide to upgrade :p

Dexter

i reckon if your gonna upgrade to HPA you should get an ion instead of the vibe its better but its not to advanced for a beginer and its still a good starter marker :D

OK thanks that sounds good can anyone recommend good hopper and co2 (my centre does air but they prefer dealing with co2) also the vibe only does 11 bps so i guess i would need a hopper to match and if i have some money left a new barrel maybe ?

Thanks

eggs are o.k for their money they do about 19 i think and are fairly cheap.

or you could buy a second hamd one for about £25

Branno
18-03-2008, 15:35
If you can, use an air system (£45), much better for your marker and greater used. As for hoppers reloader2 (£25), evolution 3 (£45) both great for the money and then if wanted a great little barrel system, the freak jnr (£38).

ok i use this site to check reviews for gear seems prety good alot of reviews on many different markers

http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/5502/

The ion XE seems to get mixed reviews where my original choice the vibe seems to prety much get flawless reviews.

I realise that its all up to personal opinion but some of the bad reviews have my worried about the ION XE but it is such a good deal right ?

Thanks

Personal preference but i dont like the vibes especially when used with co2 having to wait for your gun to release excess gas can happen during a sweet bunker manouvre an ion or slg is a safe bet and you wont need to upgrade to a better marker for a while if you buy the vibe you will be posting this same thread in a years time about another marker. but dont let that discourage you from purchasing a smartparts vibe. :D

Niall W
19-03-2008, 19:29
nice ... but it may be an option to save a little more and get a little bit of a faster hopper, wakon day you want to be gettin the most out of your hand cannon :p
Maybe check the forums for a 2nd hand halo / reloader b?
The reload 2 isnt bad, but just not that fast and it would be nice to have a hopper that can keep up with your marker:) but to be honest if you cant, the hopper you have there aint half bad.
Apart from that you have great taste :p

Glynnd111
19-03-2008, 19:45

if you can afford it, get a fibre wrap tank, they are much lighter and can hold more air than the steel ones.

As for hoppers, second hand ones go up quite regularly... I prefer the reloader B but there are many good ones, see what you like the look of/can afford : )

Glynnd111
22-03-2008, 12:52
Ok ive picked air tank now comes the hopper.

I dont shoot fast so dont need an expsensive 30bps monster but i would like it to fit into my SLG with out much hassle ie sanding the thing down to get it to fit

Thanks

Get the hopper YOU like ;)

Jack_Judge
22-03-2008, 17:33
I dont think you should plan your hopper around the feedneck of the slg as it needs upgrading anyway but as M450N says what you like is always best.

Glynnd111
22-03-2008, 18:34
Is a new feed neck for an SLG that important the reason i want a hopper that will fit straight off is the cost depending on how much feednecks are they might be cheap i aint sure but i was prety sure the money could be better spent elsewhere ie pods/packs ect unless there realy cheap in witch case point in the right direction

Thanks

Glynnd111
22-03-2008, 18:38

I see a good one for sale ask shady looks very good speed feed ideal for you
if that doesnt float your boat post up what hopper you want in the wanted thread could save yourself some money for a better air tank or new kit!
