Ok guys I am sorry it has come to this but I am bringing the Ionman to an end at Universal Paintball. The NSPA event is still on for July but from then on there will be no more woodland events. I am not sure if NSPA will continue running Ionman after this.

The reason this has come about is constant digs etc to changes in rules etc. I do not make money from these events and have made a loss from them over the year. I did not mind doing this until I received complaints about wiping etc. I tried introducing plans to off put the cheats but they were shot down in flames.

I am not prepared to waste time, money and energy on running this series any more. I thank the people who have supported the Ionman event and played it in the way it should have been played and the friendly comments made.

But I now understand fully why people can not be bothered to run events and why so little exist out there.

Sorry to hear this Chris!!! This is a real shame!!!! as it was ionman that got me out of walkons and into more competative paintball! I've met alot of new people that I would never have met through this event and built a new respect for the sport and the people involved in it...and spent far more on gats too:D Pitty people can't adapt as it spoils it for others who may have never get the oppertunity to play this format this far up north. I know the majority of the fusion lads will feel the same and wish it didn't have to happen...

Regards, Al

Chris this is the nature of paintball mate, it hasn't changed since tournaments started in the 80's.

Certain things you did right and more to the point certain things you did were fantastic such as the prizes.

But there were things you did wrong like not ensuring you got deposits for all teams booked in, this is a no brainer, but I also understand because of the chap you are you took people at face value and trusted them.

As Alex has said I and a lot of the Fusion lads will be sorry to see the woodside of it go as you have a great site there.

But the one thing that no one can take away is that at least you stuck your neck out and tried, so for that mate, thanks a lot.

Best wishes for the NSPA.

Dave.

Agreed clarkie it could be possible! I love the idea of Hybrid events where air and woods players meet on their own ground, there has been teams that are hardened woodballers loose in the woods and win at the air, this is what makes the hybrid the way forward in my mind, you dont forget where you come from and yet you dont go with the flow, you embrace paintball for what it is.... a sport with a huge variety of sportsmen :D

You lot seem to forget there is a reason Andy doesn't host regular tournaments at YPC.

He's been doing this for 20 years, he knows all the aggro and the grief that goes with it....why would he want all that again?

This is a real shame - I am sad to hear this has happened. The ionman was the true replacement for the Genesis tournament and was a great all round event. I never made it to the supair events - however the Newcastle site is fantastic and well worth the long trip north.

It is a shame that paintball politics and complaints have shut this event down. I wonder if there will be a replacement for it?

Guys thanks for the comments it has humbled me what you guys thought of the event. As an event runner it seems like if you have a complaint you are doomed if you do something and doomed if you don't do something about it.

The Ionman has always aimed to be a little different and act on comments made and resolve them the best we can. We tweeked a few things and made it so Ionman did not loose money (hopefully). I won't claim I got everything right far from it. But the way certain people acted after the event really made me angry when I found out about it. As they say you can please some the people some of the time but you can't please them all, all of the time. Also comments made about new rules have left me thinking why do I bother doing this. You guys on here have answered why I did it thank you.

But as I said to someone who said I am like a kid who has run home with the ball so no one can play after thinking enough is enough.

"People can think I am a dick that is fine"

"But at least this way I don't pay for them in money and time to think I am a dick"

Lots of little things mount up to the point I think enough is enough. But you guys have left me thinking some times someone needs to take it on the chin when people complain and moan as these are not the views of everyone.

Anyways this was not meant to be a rant it was meant to be a thank you for your kind words and reminder why the Ionman was so good. Thanks guys you cheered me up.

and another one bites the dust......

its a real shame as i went to many of the ionman events with Fusion since it started and had a very good time doing so, all i can say is well done for giving it a go in the first place and giving players like me the chance to travel further afield and play on a great site, as usual the few have spoiled it for the many

After reading the Thank You comments and all the people who supported it, it makes me think why there wasnt any support at the time or was there?

I hope this thread gives strength and peace of mind to whoever runs the next big tournament series in the North. Anyone who does question any tournament setup in future purely to cause chaos will meet a wall of united players that support the Host. I hope this is what happens.

Ok folks I have some news for you, after an over whelming ammount of pm's and requests and kind words, we held a meeting about the Ionman event.

The Ionman events will continue, but the following will be put into place. A panel of helpers and backers will help in the running of the event. This means that when issues come to light they are dealt with by a group of people not just a couple.

The event will be still run by Universal / NSPA but it is hopefully going to have the following people who will deal with issues that come about.

Myself
Daz & Neil the NSPA
Singer
Lambchops
Russ & Gilly UK Refs (confirming and agreeing any new rules etc)
Gassy (again as a ref and backer of the Ionman) to confirm
Andy Sables (Yet to have a word with)

The format will continue as planned for the rest of the year. We will be discussing and bringing in a few rules to sort out a couple of issues that need stamped out. But as a whole the Ionman will remain the same, although if anyone has any concerns they can view them to people on the list above. Then they can come and resolve them with Universal / NSPA with out forums being used in a negative way.

This is not a sudden U Turn by me, it is a U turn due mainly to Fusion / Venom and new players and Daz (NSPA) making me realise that the Ionman has a hell of a lot more positives than negatives. Now all I can do is promise you that the Ionman has some big plans for 2009 as well as massive plans for the NSPA. Again I thank you all for backing this event and proving that the event is becoming what I aimed it to be : something for all levels of players that is for the players not the event runners.

Thank you guys !
