View Full Version : Removing air cylinder
Hi Guys
I'm new to paintball and have all my new kit now but need to ask a couple of questions about the marker and air supply.
I prefer to remove the cylinder from the marker for easier storage, so is it ok to remove it when there is still, say 2000psi left in it. Obviously there is the momentary escape of air as the valve seals.
Also, I did this a few times and about 5 minutes later there was a sudden release of pressure from my new PMR. Is this a safety feature to release pressure and should I fire the marker with a paintball in the barrel once the cylinder has been removed to release the charge?
Thanks
John

best way to take of the bottle is to "dry" fire it to release the presure between the bottle and marker whichs makes it easyer to unscrew and then once the bottles off just fire the marker again to remove any air from the marker..

yeh, so this way you dont accidentally shoot urself in the eye or any other precious body parts. Seriously you really want to remove all the remaining air in ur marker, just to be on the safe side. :p

you don't have to have a paintball in the marker to fire it, just turn the eyes off and fire it "dry"... that is to say, with no paint. a good way to stop the vent of air from the bottle when you take it off is to buy an on/off valve for your gun. this replaces the standard port the bottle screws into with a port with a knob or lever that stops air coming out of your bottle before you remove it, which also makes it easier to remove and can save you money on bottle o-rings.

Yet again, someone not really thinking about the advise they're giving. An on/off valve is really no differant to just an ASA (Air Source Adaptor, the bit that you screw your bottle into.) It's an oops (On Off Purge System) you want, which when you turn it off stops the flow of air from your bottle and releases the trapped air thus making it easy to unscrew your bottle. You will still be left with air in your gun though.

well, i gave the best advice i knew of... having never used an oops i can't really recomend one can i? besides, if you turn off your aur then dry fire the gun, all the pressure gets released anyway.... which is the same as an oops, but cheaper, no?
Thanks for the replies. I didn't think dry firing did any damage but wasn't 100% sure. Is this what I need then? http://www.fatbobspaintball.co.uk/Drop_Forwards_/_Rails_Etc-Proto_Drop_Forwards/c13_168/index.html I can't see anything else in the shop unless I am missing it.
What is the norm anyway? Do most folk remove the cylinder or leave it attached?

well i remove it, for storage, as it wudnt fit in my bag properly, plus i can screw it on a different marker, if i want to test it. I have an oops on one, so that males it okay to leave it screwed in, but id just rather not.

aye the proto airports are fine... also, it's always best to remove your bottle when not using the marker, as it's just like removing live rounds from a gun when your done with it... it stops anyone else (small kids in the family etc) coming along when you're not there and hurting themselves with it. also, it'll stop any unnessecery(sp) strain on the bottle thread...
Most people use the Dye oops, which they call the on off airport. The best thing to do is call Fatbobs on a monday, thursday or saturday between 10 and 5, and we can point you in the right direction. 01757 289777
