View Full Version : air system
ay up
after listening to my tall tales about last weeks Big Game, my mate's contemplating returning to the paintball scene (after 9 yrs) and would like his marker to run on a remote air system...where would he get the appropiate hose?
Thanks
Steve
The air reg would be attached to the bottle as normal (on your back). Then any CO2 remote hose will work.
Yes although 9 years older and another 3 stone heavier - the silver tongued Boyzie has reawakened my interest in the genteel art of lighting people up (OK - bear with me - i'm still using terminology that's 9 years out of date!)
Took a sabbatical from paintball just as air was coming in so forgive any apparent dumb questions as i'm not technically minded - although i can just about remember which end of a marker (can I call it a gun now?) the paint's supposed to come out of.
Seem to remember that air gives a damn sight more consistency in velocity than CO2 so i thought i'd give it a go.......
If it helps, I've got a pro-magged (remember them???) lvl 7 automag set up as follows:
20oz CO2 bottle with flow valve screws directly into an old Marksmann remote hose - this connects onto a bottom line cum stock arrangement via a Q/D connector.
There's a braided hose leading from the bottom line to an adaptor mounted forward of the pistol grip.
This in turn connects to a 3.5 oz expansion bottle mounted vertically on the bottom of the adaptor (can't remember if the 3.5oz has got an anti-siphon tube in it)
The adaptor's also got a second braided hose coming out of it that connects to the regulator on the back of the 'mag (with a Q/D connector so you can remove the 'mag regulator easily)
all clear so far...........?
From what I remember of the early air systems you couldn't use them with a CO2 setup as the pressure was too high (and that CO2 allegedly contained lots of impurities that air sytems didn't like)?
Sooo.... If an air bottle has got a regulator attached to it, am i right in thinking that this'll reduce the pressure sufficiently for my current bog standard CO2 hosing to be OK? (Call me a wimp but I don't fancy the idea of violently exploding hoses and 3.5oz bottles in close proximity to me!)
If i'm right does this also mean that I can run on either C02 or air (depending on availability) using my existing rig??
If not, how do i need to modify my current rig to run remote and what kit do i need to invest in??
Also any suggestions for upgrades to ther 'mag itself appreciated!
Ta in advance to anyone who a) makes it this far and b) answers my questions

PM Scottie, they use Co2 on remotes (Scottish warriors)... I'm sure he can get them cheap enough as well....

I've just had a skeg at the 'mag instruction manual and it says that the pressure within the mag is approx 400psi, reduced by it's internal regulator from a CO2 bottle pressure of 600-1000psi, depending on the ambient temprature
So you know your remote hose is able to tolerate 600-1000psi
If you bought a 3000psi air bottle and regulator, I'm sure the regulator reduces the pressure from the bottle to about 850psi,well within the 600-1000psi parameter of your remote
Hope that muddle makes sense...and more to the point...am I right?

You could get a fixed output reg and bottle which would be either 4500 or 3000 PSI. These would give a fixed output pressure of air, normally about 800PSI, the same as CO2.
This would screw directly onto your remote hose in the same way the CO2 bottle would.
That way you can use either CO2 or air.
Fat Bobs sell the regs and bottles!:D
