if i buy a 1.1L 4500psi Fibre Bottle from the fat bob website.....
do i use a 3000 Psi Preset Regulator or a 4500psi Preset Regulator and what is the advantage of having an ajustable reg...
in the end doesnt all air bottles end up giving 300 fps on the crono???
:p  :p
Okay first thing first keep it simple.... :)
If you buy a 4500 bottle, buy a 4500 reg.
If you buy a 3000psi bottle, buy a 3000psi reg.
Air 'bottles' do not change the velocity of markers. So irrelevant of if you had a 4500 or 3k bottle and reg the velocity would not change.
The marker itself is where you would adjust velocity, normally with an inline regulator of some sort.
The difference between a 4500 and 3k bottle is basically how many shots per fill of the tank you would get.
For example if you got 1000 shots from a 1.1 3k using a fixed 3k reg outputting 800psi, you could expect from a 1.1 4500 bottle using a 4.5k reg outputting at 800psi around 1500 shots.
The advantage of an adjustable regulator is... you can reduce the psi running into the marker. By doing this you can improve your number of shots per fill.
OR
Some markers will not allow you to run 800psi into them as it causes damage to seals etc. These being things like a 2k3 shocker with a gas through grip. These require a lot lower pressure into the marker and therefore you need an adjustable reg.
The majority of markers now, because they have a second stage of regulation (normally an inline reg) can use fixed output regs. However this is not always the case, best asking about if you can use it on a specific marker.
If you can use co2 on a marker, then fixed output regs at 800psi are fine :)
Hope this helps :)

does that mean you CANT PUT A 3k reg on a 3k bottle ?
NO, you CAN put a 3k reg on a 3k bottle and fill to 3k.
You CAN put a 4.5k reg on a 4.5k bottle and fill to 4.5k.
You COULD put a 3k reg on a 4.5k bottle but only fill to 3k!.
Until you are 100% sure of what you are doing with squeezed gases, keep it simple: match your reg to the same pressure as the bottle. If you ain't sure, do what you already did, ASK!

you can put any reg on any bottle but you are only allowed to fill to what the bottle is rated at. not what the reg is rated at.
....as long as the reg is rated at or above the rating on the bottle.
eg. 3000 reg on 3000 bottle ok
4500 reg on 3000 bottle ok
5000 reg on 3000 bottle ok
fill above to 3000 psi only.
4500 reg on 4500 bottle ok
5000 reg on 4500 bopttle ok
fill to 4500 psi only.
5000 reg on 5000 bottle ok.
fill to 5000psi only.
Agreed, but inevitably you get people with 4500 bottles and 3k regs attempting to fill them to 4500psi not 3k....
What makes this even more difficult if you look at pre set regs is that often they are very difficult to distinguish between.
I'd personally stick to using the bottle applicable to the rating of your tank.
Each to their own though :)
EDIT: (after reading previous posts) Basically I echo what Inknstuff said :)
