View Full Version : pro/am - 98 questions
Alright, can any of you tippman fans possible fill me in on what the differences are between the pro/am and the 98?
From what I can see from pictures they seem to be the same basic design?
Does this mean 98 mods will fit a pro/am?
Any advice is appreciated?

The Pro-Am is an older tippy marker produced from 1993 onwards made mostly from cast alloy and steel,so it's heavier than the 98 and it has a cast alloy foregrip which can be slid forward to access the breach and a gas thru style grip frame, internally they are similar but not exactly the same so i doubt you can swap any internals between either markers and as for milsim type upgrades,i haven't seen any to be honest.
If i'm honest you would be better with the 98 as there seems to be lot's of upgrades especially aimed at the milsim crowd and it's a lot lighter and spares are in abundance.
wasn't asking to help me choose between the two as I inheritated a pro/am from my uncles gun collection.
I wasn't going to bother replacing any of internals just making it look a bit fancier than it does at present and maybe replacing the barrel as its a damn ugly looking thing.

I just found THIS (http://www.warpig.com/paintball/technical/paintguns/pro-am.shtml) useful article which helps a lil with modifications to the gun and also a whole load of background to the gun.
Also found this exploded diagram (http://www.warpig.com/paintball/technical/paintguns/pro-am.shtml) which may help you.
And finally this guy seems pretty clued up on the dissassembally (http://www.a5og.net/other-tippmann-markers/5523-tutorial-complete-tippmann-pro-lite-disassembly.html) and innards of the Pro-Am/Lite
It would also appear that the barrel threads are same as the Tippmann A5/X7 so there will be millions out there. Only thing is make sure the ouside of the barrel don't get too fancy as it has to fit in the foregrip, if its too big it wont fit in (no comments).
As for looking fancy its kinda like polishing a turd, its never gonna be bling but its meant to be more milsim so slap a scope on, silly long barrel, camo paint and camo netting and get 'sniping' people with the ol' shooter!:D
True its turd :D but its like most coprophiliacs say a polished turd looks better than a regular turd!
I mainly want it done up so ive got a mechanical marker for punter days and when no one else has an electric gat.
The links are awesome thanks mate, I'll be able to strip it properly now.

you cant polish a turd.....but you can roll it in glitter :p
