Ok Guys

Whats your opinion on the legendary Tippmann 98 And 98 Custom?

I've owned one for about 1 year, and a couple off my mates have them too, we dont really play with anything else, tryed out a Sabby and nothin competes with the Reliablity, accuracy, Efficentcy(sp). I havent played with anyother gun, and i dont really wanna, if i was to upgrade:p id get a Tippmann A-5.

Opinions Please?
Whats your experience with them? if any?
Any Bad Points?

hi mike
I have a 98c and A5.

98c has never given trouble lots of use very easy to clean down with a hose at the end of the day.

My A5 has responce triger kit and fires about 15/20 bps. with no broken balls just as easy as a 98 to clean (with a hose) only down side is the standard barrel always shot low and left.
this has bean sorted out by fitting the barrel from a 98 with an addapter purchased from tippman ($16+ shipping).
Ifyou decide to buy one i have a spare triger kit never used supplied by WDP open to ofers.
any further questions feal free to ask.

Nick do u play at the site in ALEXANDRIA?? and u no the reponse trigger is going to be illegal in UK ?? so i have been informed. im going to the site on sunday. i tryed to buy e response trigger from WDP and it was them that sais aboot the triger.

98 coudnt outshoot an a5, cos an a5 basically has a built in halo!, so you cant really feed a 98 nearly as fast as an a5.
what i would do, is put it down, and buy a cocker.

i have just bought a tippy 98c from bobs but my mate has the older tippy 98 whats the difference between a 98 and the 98c?

nick ryal
19-06-2003, 00:10
Hi scottie Yes i do play there!! hope you had a good day.
the responce trigger is a gray area and WDP supplyed both the trigger kits that i have when the A5's where bought (jan 03) i was told by them that thay could give them tome but thay could not sell them(you work it out?)

Boonie the diffrenc is in the body. a 98c (custom)has a pre machined body for mods (responce triger etc)where as a 98 is stock and has to ba sent to a tippy machine shop to have some mods done.so you should be able to get somegood mods happy shoting.

eric a well set up A5 will shoot 15 bps (with responce triger) where as a 98c with a triger kit and a halo will drop out 20 bps, and 20 bps is good in any bodys book (even an angel)

Eric

i'd love to see a tippy blasting out 20bps!!
imagine that down on a punter day. cool.
sorry, i was wrong! still dont really like tippy's tho, my opinion, well build tho, and a good starter marker, just aint my cup of tea:)

Djmatt

hmmm a tippy firing 20 bps??? i think not, and besides if it did it would be firing soup

The 98c is a nice marker but if you got a lil more cash get the A5 as it kicks most guns arse. there both accurate and dont need alot of cleaning. id go for them over anything other than an Angel but there quite abit more £.:p

if you are going for an A5 it is well worth the money to stick on a flat line barrel (bizzar looking bit of kit ) but will give it the extra edge.
the barrel makes it travel further and.

Hi

Had my Tippy for two years, indestructible! A tip if strapped for cash is to polish the inside of the standard barrel, I used a drill with a piece of metal rod with soft cloth wrapped round soaked in metal polish, be careful take your time and just smooth out the machining lines, makes it much more consistent and shoots straighter.

Tippmann - a gun that lets you know you are shooting at someone!!

i may not be very experienced when it comes down to paintballing and i dont actually own a marker at the present time, but when i did go paintballing some time ago, one of the players let me borrow his tippmann 98c cos the spyder i was using had broken and when comparing the two the tippmann was so much better, more accurate, more reliable and more painful. lol. i cant wait to get one.

98's errmm :p well there good for newbies or people playin rec ball( in woods and stuff) i'm not a massive fan of the 98 tho i would use one if it was a big game or sumin coz of the reliability looks wise it looks a bit like lilly Saavge without the make up and doesn't look all that good but good marker if you don't care bout looks.

The 98c is basically just a newer version of the 98, it contains different threds meaning that its more upgradable.

Sorry to disagree...but the 98 and 98c do not have different threads. The only difference is the body milling is different on the 98.The only bit that cannot be used on both models,is a powerfeed, this because of the milling.Apart from that all parts are interchangable...Oh and the 98 has two return springs on the trigger instead of the one on the 98c.

I currently have 12 98's, 2 98C's and an A5 and they are all consistantly more reliable than any other marker I have. That's not to say better, just that they always work no matter what.

I would say that the Flatline, for either the A5 or 98,is a waste of money. They will not work properly with CO2 as a propellent and you need to be very carefull about what paint you use.I would recommend getting a 16" Stealth Barrel from Armson. These barrels have the same range as a Flatline and are,in my opinion, more accurate at extreme range. Most importantly they are a third of the price of a Flatline.

Which ever person said that a 98c could out shoot an A5 is very wrong, my A5 fires about 15 ball per sec and my 98c with flatline and other shit only does about 10. the range isnt as good either the A5 with flatline outshoots most guns unless you go crazzy and get and angel. if the orig bloke still reads this get an A5 you won't look back.

if u still havent looked nick has them both .also the only reason your a5 does 15 a second is you have a responce trigger kit.fit a RTK to a 98 and bobs your uncle oh an yes you will need a halo to feed it pref, with a warp drive kit

nick ryal
26-01-2004, 23:46
JiMM7 if you trick up you 98c with a low pressure kit e grip and a GOOD hopper you will out shoot your A5. as you can get the burst mode modified to shoot 4 on the pull and 4 on the release. you do the mathes 4+4x2=16bpm for the 98c 15bpm A5 out the box.But and here it starts to get fun if you chuck the cyclone fead away and go mental with a warp fead and a GOOD hopper you will get 20 + with some hard work and a bag of cash.
I aint trying to slag of any of the two guns as with a bag of cash and a warped mind any thing is possable. The A5 is my gun of choice but if you want more than 15bpm from yor A5 throw away the flat line barrell and go with WG Spike and get a good flat barell

hey everyone,i am new to this forum. i am from the u.s. and i own a 98 custom. i was looking for info on the 98c when i came across this site. i have a 98c with the r/t and an egg ( electric hopper by veiwloader) with the egg and r/t i can shoot 18 balls per second max. the 98c never chops any balls. i just ordered a 3-way stock, palmer stabilizer, and anti-siphon tubes for my co2 tanks. this gun is great, except for the stock barrel (i just bought a 10-piece barrel kit). i have polished internals and a drop forward. the gun never gives me any problems and plays in any conditions. here in the u.s. the r/t is illegal in turnaments. i dont play in turnaments so i dont worry about it.:D

stevie carson that is one nice set up u have there.
i own a A5 and a 98c and the 98c is by far the best marker, the A5 is just 2 heavy and wide (it does have a nice grip thow), the 98c is a very gd marker. it is nearly as gd as the DM4, jk

Between me and my mates we have about 6 tippman markers.

I have the A5 which is better than the 98's. As standard it has better range on the same FPS (both standard barrels were tested) I have however upgraded my barrel now.

The A5 is an excellent shot as its accurate and comes with a good hopper due to the cyclone feed it is an accurate marker with a terrific rate of fire.

Its fairly tuff but the 98 is the better one for its ability to last. Also a lot easier to fix.

Both are top quality though!!!!!!!!!!!

hi there, will be getting my tippman 98c very shortly. could someone tell me the difference between the BT barrel kit and the flatline barrel? The BT looks the daddy, but does it actually give any improvement in performance? Cheers, btw great forum.

VagabondStarJXF
15-12-2004, 18:26
The BT kit makes it look more like an M14 or M16 (not sure which one lately) and will give an improvement just like most standard barrel upgrades. The Flatline (along with the shroud) will make the 98 look more like an AK47 or AK74 (they look pretty much the same) but works on the aerodynamics principal of backspin to increase your overall shot distance. There are pros and cons to the Flatline which you can probably find using the search system. Other people have covered it before me... I think.

15-12-2004, 20:27
thanks, very helpful. Does anyone have both? And do you know why the BT isnt on the Tippman website?

VagabondStarJXF
15-12-2004, 20:59
I've only owned the Flatline and that was on the A5. It was fantastic but you couldn't use just any old paint in it. You need to get a paint which has a moderately firm shell or, if you've got no choice, drop your velocity down. The flatline has a tendancy to be quite harsh on paint at the higher velocities. As for why Tippman doesn't have the BT16 on there... no idea mate. They don't have quite a few of thier products on there from what I've heard.

i have a c98 which i use with a smartparts teardrop barrel
which i would reccomend very accurate and very reliable

i have just recently brought an A5 which i am impressed with i also brought a 32 deg whisper barrel which at the last walk on i had trouble with paint bursting in the barrel but i think the paint was crappy all in all both guns are very reliable and great to use i only really play rec ball so i know the speed ballers think their to big to slow etc etc so horses for courses,

with regard to the BT16 barrell look for Ben Tippman web site it's a differnt web site to the normal Tippmann site i will try and find the address and post if i can find it

Cheers

As promised here is the address for the bt range

www.bentippmann.com
should habve realised really :D

hope this helps

Ok guys, heres a challenge for you. I HAVE to know what that parts were used in this set-up.

http://www.bentippmann.com/images/bt_loaded.jpg

The front bottle adapter (I think thats what it is) looks so sweet, but the horizontal bottle adapter shown on the site...

http://www.bentippmann.com/horizontal_tank.php

...looks nothing like it! What it is? Who be they? and How?! :)

Gonzo
21-12-2004, 15:11
okey dokey here we go i think :D

the first image is a mil sim m203 grenade launcher i dont think its a bottle adaptor it may fir paint grenades but i think its for show,

the second is pretty cool :) althoughit must make the barrel heavy and not sure how many shots you woulg get from it ???

I use a remote coil on both my C98 and my a5 and car stocks
looks grear and fires like a dream

if you like the milsim look (like me) look for the opsgear.com
site very cool stuff just the importing costs and tax that puts me off

Cheers
