I can't even understand why a humanely killed fish tastes any different to one where it's heart is still beating while it's being eaten. It seems that ethics and human decency are lost in some countries.

I once saw a video of someone eating live monkey brains, which was the second sickest thing I have ever seen.

Dexter
20-11-2009, 16:52
what was the sickest?

Andy-YPC
20-11-2009, 17:56
The sickest was on the same video, "Face of Death", and it was cows being killed in some eastern european country abatoir, they were sawing their throats with wood saws.

That was one video that effected me for ages and I wish I had never seen it.

Um..................... Its a fish? Could understand the fuss if it was a hamster or rabbit or something. Common belief is that fish feel no pain which is why we can stick hooks through their mouths and throw them back. I personally don't have an issue with this. Just a little bit gross.

Googling Tub girl now :D

Going back further....Goatse is always a laugh.

At first you gaze into the meaty cave and your breath is stolen from you in shock and awe.

However, it has popped up so many times in my time on the internet that I now just smile, like an old friend has appeared.

The fish thing is bull though. I cannot imagine this tasting any better than a dead fish would.

Why would there be a difference if it was a hamster or a rabbit. Because they are cute and cuddly? Believe me, fish do feel pain and any person who beleives they don't needs to learn a thing or two about anatomy.

tub girl is wrong! just wrong! =( and anyone feeling sorry for the fish can get some piece of mind because i'm pretty sure it's dead and just having muscle spasms. cos i went fishing and i was given execution duty which was mildly disturbing and after i broke their neck quickly they kept twitching so alex is right

Actually it's more because when you torture mammals they tend to scream :p ITS A FISH!!!! Get over it. Why don't you just go and campaign outside parliament for a fishing ban? At least that would stop you posting untruths. FISH DO NOT FEEL PAIN. FACT!!! I wikied it you see :D 1-0 me

This thread has taken a much more interesting turn anyways. I'm finding it difficult to find this tub girl phenomenom in video form. At first I was slightly disturbed by the pictures but now, strangely, I feel compelled to see this in real time. :o

If anyone has got a link to the vid post up. Then I can show it to my family and peers and film some reactions for viewing pleasure.

Mammals scream because they have the ability to scream and in actual fact (wiki this if you want clever clogs) many catfish have the ability to make noise and do so when they feel pain. They have nerves and a central nervous system like any other animal which means they do feel pain. FACT. When you go fishing, the hook goes through the sides of the mouth which doesn't have nerves so your example is pretty rubbish. I won't be campaigning outside of parliament A. because it wasn't filmed in england and so it would be to no avail and B. because I couldn't really care less about the fish and was more appalled and disturbed at the human mindset and the lack of morals.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

^^^^^^^^^^ - Before you say I know this is childish :D

The ability to sense damage and feel pain are completely different things. Much research has been undertaken by the angling community to prove that despite the nerve endings a fish's brain just cannot process the information into a sensation that we would describe as "pain". Much in the same way a plant repairs itself if damaged.

Again morals? Its a fish. If you don't care about the fish either then what are you arguing about? If as you say it is a matter of morals then you would have to care about the fish or else you are just admitting that you are just as bad as these people and are just arguing for arguments sake (also because you wish to be viewed as PC). So do you care about the fish or not? :p

Pain or no pain.

"It's just a fish" or "It's a living creature"...

Putting those aside, don't you think it's a little messed up that someone went out of their way to half fry a living animal. Kill it and cook it or leave it alone.

You have a few points in your posts Illuminati but the way you post those points makes you out to be a bit of a jerk.

I wish now I had not watched the vid, I think its unnecessary to leave the fish half alive to prove how fresh it is on the plate, to the point its cruel.

I once downloaded a video of one of the beheadings in Iraq, apparently it's done with a pen knife and not a sword like you would expect.

I hovered over it with the mouse pointer and was just about to open the file, but thought better of it and deleted instead. I rekon the video would have effected me for ages.

There are some things that are in such bad taste that they shouldn't be watched by decent people.

A freind of mine saw one and said he wished he had not done it, I was also tempted out of curiousity but also decided against it, I once saw a documentary on the civil war in liberia, it was on some sky channel years ago and that was also disturbing what they were doing to each other, this was all on film, When they kill each other they cut out the mans heart and eat it as they believe they gain the mans strength, they even hoped to capture them alive as they cut it out while they were alive, lots of links on you tube to the war, this was all in the 1990's and I still get reminded of that documentary by certain things setting off my memory.

The latest scientific thinking is that your organs have a memory (Or programme) which can be passed on to organ recipients. So the eating of a victims heart may actually have some scientific relevance.
There was also some tribe somewhere who made sure that all organs eaten from enemies were cooked properly as they would take on the doners attributes if it they were eaten raw.

For the record though all I did was post an opinion and someone chose to quote my post and cast aspersions upon my intelligence. Over reacted a bit.

I don't know you so I wouldn't question your intelligence. However, don't you think that you might have questioned mine? I may know more about fish than you may think but then you don't know me either.
In responce to your earlier post (and as I've already stated), the fish's pain is not the thing that I'm most worried about, that would be foolish as there's not much I can do about that and I have seen far worse in real life. The main thing that troubles me is WHY someone would do such a thing. It has no bearing on the flavour of the fish and therefore can only have been done for the shock factor which is pretty messed up really. That's my last post on the matter as I'm not keen on argueing over the internet. By the way, I don't give a toss about being PC and if you know anyone that knows me I'm sure they will back me up on that.

Illuminati
22-11-2009, 19:22
The fish might taste better? We can't comment on the flavour until someone has eaten it first hand. Kind of like the 50cal discussions of the last few months.

I will agree that there is no scientific reason for the fish to taste better but that doesn't mean something isn't so.

I know we said we were done but its no longer an argument.

Only on a paintball forum can two people argue about the feelings of a fish.

Tub-girl = scar'd for life

As for the fish, just unlucky...

Most of the voices talking in that vid was pretty shocked the fish was still alive.

How you are brought up into the world is how you see and accept.
Most of you would disagree against eating cats and dogs as they have been domesticated over here in the western world. I can tell you now, they are very tasty.

im asuming you can speak that language? if you do coould you translate please? personally i think it sounds like there laughing at it.

as for eating cats and dogs, i have no problem eating rabbit and i have no problem eating chicken or duck, these are domesticated (to a lesser extent but people still keep them as pets). however these have all bean dead. after all how would you feel if someon dipped you in boiling fat and then started chomping on your leg whilst you could watch but could do nothing to stop it.

Dexter I think he took it that the laughing was due to the shock of seeing it.

They are not half fried and eaten alive.

Enough quoting from me anyway. I was just thinking more about this and I suppose I should not be so bothered by it as I eat other animals and enjoy fish especially. I would not eat this but I think it is the same for any animal you would have to eat half alive also. I have never eaten fresh (alive) oysters either due to this.

I think like alot of people if I was faced with killing the animal I'm about to eat then it would make the process alot harder. I have heard of people turning vegetarian from seeing the process for sheep, cows and even chickens. I am not comparing slaughtering a cow to eating an oyster here, I just think that being told something is alive and then chowing down on it and killing it with your teeth is a bit minging.

Dexter
23-11-2009, 09:14
my thought are along the same lines, however seeing the animal alive and then eating it after it has been killed is not a problem :D i think it makes it taste better when youve preppared it yourself :p

i just think it shouldnt suffer and thats part of the reason i dont like the idea of crab and lobster.

Rider
13-12-2009, 10:24
lobster should be killed just before cooking. easy done with a sharp knife through the "brain". there is absolutely no reason to boil live lobster.
