i was just wondering if the e-grip for the a-5 is actually legal as it allows you to have burst and auto modes.

Lots of markers have these extra modes. They are legal as long as you don't use them. In the same way a knife is legal but stabbing someone to death isn't. It's not what you've got, but what you do with it ;)
