View Full Version : Pmr 10
I went paintballing this morning with my mates and used my PMR 10 for the first time. It was amazing, and i had no problems with it what so ever. However, as i was away cleaning my goggles, i heard my friends talking to the field owner about getting thier own guns. They asked about the protos, but the owner started slagging them off saying they are crap and you should never get one. Then he suggested to my friends they should get eteks as their first starter marker, and that protos wouldnt ever be able to keep up with them, but my pmr was keeping up great with another of my friends eteks.
So i was just wondering why all the hate on the protos?
There could be several reasons why the field owner slated proto markers, however sponsorship, brand loyalty and financial incentive can never be ruled out in paintball. Also Proto markers because of the way they operate need more love (maintenance) than Eteks/Egos, with a lot of first time buyers they don't read the manual or just skim through to find out how to turn the marker on and because most new markers work great out of the box leave it as that. After a few times out Proto bolts then start sticking or leaking because you need to lube the o rings. This prevents wear on the moving o'rings and provides a final seal, however in my experience a few first timer resort to adjusting the input pressure to counter the bolt stick, find that this solves the problem and carry on using their marker, after a while bolt stick happens again, the user then adjust the input pressure again and so on. Finally this leads to either the marker blowing all of it's seals/o rings or over pressurising the solenoid.
May be the field owner has had a lot of guys with markers that haven't maintain them, therefore giving him the impression that Proto are unreliable. However to state that they won't keep up with Eteks is rubbish as guys on my team use them with no problems in a race to format, and never feel that they are out gunned.
Ran an SLG and a PMR In the past (still have the PMR). Not particularly reliable, however they do perform really well. That site owner don't know crapp to be Frank if he's forcing that opinion on you.
Either that or he sells Eteks ;)

All spoolie markers need "more love" than the poppet style.
When I say more love, I mean, you remove bolt, check orings are ok then put bolt back in. More love takes about 50 seconds after a game when your cleaning your gear. its no big deal.
