"We're very very excited about the Tippmann Challenge UK this year. Last year was a great start for a new event, but the sheer scale of the plans for this year look enormous. Tippmann will be pouring a massive effort into this event to make it one of the premier events in Europe this year."
Paul Banks, Tippmann Sports

"The Tippmann Challenge UK is looking like it'll be the biggest show that Shoreline have ever put on. We're literally throwing the kitchen sink at this event to ensure that the players get more value and more quality that they've ever had before. Super6 has set the bar high, but we'll be aiming at nothing less than a significant raising of that bar to produce an event that'll put the UK Big Game scene firmly into the top of the world standings for quality and value for money. The next few months are going to be quite a ride!"

As part of our march towards modernising the game a bit, Shoreline have started to use QR codes for smart phones.

All our future news letters will feature a QR code and we'll also publish them on our website and the forums.

Here's the first.

News from the Tippmann Challenge:

We've finally completed testing of the bar code aspect to the scoring system. This is how it'll work:

Every player will be issued with a laminated QR code card (like a barcode) which will be fixed to their mask.

At set times, teams will need to muster as many of their players as possible and pass them through a scanning gate. As each player passes through the gate, their QR code will be scanned and they will earn their side points. As each scan takes place, a wireless system will send the scores back to the 42 inch LCD screens in the main staging area in real time so everyone in the staging area will be able to see the 'scan scores' ticking up.

Also, distributed around the site will be 150 QR artefacts (basically, barcodes on laminated cards). These artefacts (QR codes) will need to be gathered by the teams and scanned. Some of the codes will be worth points, some massive points, others will be boobies and will take massive amounts of points off your team and some will contain special missions the details of which will be revealed when scanned. Basically, each team will need to have a scanner in their HQ and when players bring in code cards that they have found around the site, the person manning the HQ will need to scan them. If they are worth points, then you'll hand them to Game Control and earn the points. If they are boobies, then you should bin them (if you pass any boobies to Game Control the points will be deducted - so scan carefully before handing them to us) and if the code reveals a special mission - then you'll need to get cracking and follow the instructions revealed when scanned!

We've been testing the system for a while now and it appears robust. We'll also be operating a paper based back-up system for the scoring gates just in case.

Why are we bothering spending all this money on such a high tech scoring system? - because it's cool! Because nobody else does it and because we're at the forefront of world paintball in incorporating new technology into our games and are evangelical about raising the bar at events to make UK events the envy of the world.

For the Tippmann Challenge UK this year, you'll sign in via touch pad technology (next year we will be introducing an optional biometric thumb pad reader for players to register) which will reduce registering to less than 10 seconds.

There will be no tatty old flags - we use new electronic flags that Shoreline have developed specifically for paintball.

Scoring will be via QR codes scanned by iphones and transmitted back to the staging area.

We'll have 7 x 42 inch LCD screens at the event and 1 x 48 inch LCD screen with live maps (bases will change colour as they are captured so players will always be able to see where they are needed from the comfort of the safe area) and also live scoring updated in real time.

Shoreline of the UK are the world leaders when it comes to the use of technology in paintball events. In recent times they have offered a glimpse of what paintball could be like in the future if more promoters on this side of the Atlantic had the same sort of vision and willingness to invest in their events instead of sitting back and taking our subscription money. There is no other promoter anywhere in the world who is embracing and pushing the boundaries of technology in paintball in this way and it makes some of the premier events over here look like they are from a different time period. We need a Shoreline game in the US to shake things up a little, make US promoters up their game and put the players experience first for a change.

With each event that we do, we'll continue trying to offer players a better and better experience. Having recently worked in Europe, it was surprising to hear that many of the players on the continent already believe that UK games are by far the best in Europe and that is evident in the number of teams who now travel over from Europe to attend our events. We'll never hit the sort of scale in terms of player numbers that the USA regularly achieves, but our aim is nothing less than within 3 years enshrining scenario and Big Games in the UK as the very best quality events in the world. The investment in new tech is very much part of that strategy. Expect new announcements later in the year regarding our plans for the future introduction of yet more new ideas for the 2012 season.

Thanks
Tim.

After seeing a lot of new faces and teams at YPC for Armo6 last weekend, it would be great to see that those people have now got the paintball bug and get along to the remaining Super6 events of the year.

If any new players are thinking of coming down to Holmbush for Tippmann Challenge then they would be more than welcome to come run with any of the Green teams (CIA, MI6 or MOSAAD), who will look after you and make sure you get a great game.

As already mentioned, we make no apologies for the amount of threads relating to the Tippmann Challenge UK. It's such a massive event and so much going on that its important that all attendees are informed.

Turn your old unwanted kit into cash - or pick up a bargain at TCUK!

We'll be running a Bring and Buy sale at the Tippmann Challenge UK between 3pm and 5pm on Super6 Saturday.

It's completely free of charge and open to absolutely everyone. We'll set up a 60ft tent with tables and all you need to do is bring along any unwanted kit that you want to get rid of, dump it on the tables and flog it.

It's a great chance to empty out the garage of all your excess kit that you no longer need and turn it into money that could pay for your TCUK weekend (it'll also keep the missus happy). It's also a chance for fellow players and new players to pick up kit, clothing or anything else paintball related nice and cheaply and bag a few bargains.

There are no fees, there is no commission on sales etc - we'll just provide the tent, tables and advertise the Bring and Buy sale - and you guys Bring and er......Buy.

Post up in this thread if you are bringing anything for the Bring and Buy sale so that people can look out for particular bits of kit that they fancy.

The last time we did a Bring and Buy sale, I personally made over 500 quid. Which was nice!

Enjoy!

Recruitment Update

The latest recruitment stats are in. It makes for very very very interesting reading.

Green Team = 50%
Black Team = 50%

That's right - exactly, exactly the same number of players are booking onto both sides. Quite amazing.

In terms of the faction break downs:

MI6 = 13%
CIA = 13%
MOSSAD = 24%

Mafia = 5%
TRIADS = 30%
Escobar Cartel = 15%

It'll make for an interesting 'game on'.

Clearly both sides have a dominant faction in terms of numbers, but using those numbers wisely will be the key to the game.

Also, the Mafia could be a very useful squad of guys who will be hard to track by the opposition. I can see them popping up here and there in their small numbers and doing some real damage.

-----------------------------

Important ticket information

As we move into the final couple of weeks, we'll start to begin to manage the ticketing from next Monday onwards.

This means that you've got until next Monday to book in and decide your own faction and side. After next Monday, we will begin the process of shutting down particular factions or sides to ensure that game is equally weighted.

So what does this mean for you - simple. After next Monday, you may not have a choice of which side or faction you play on. If you book in before next Monday, you will. So if playing on a particular side or faction or along side your mates who have already got tickets is important to you - then you need to get signed up before next Monday (8th August).

Not long now!

Hammerhead's Robert Judson to appear at the TCUK!

We're absolutely delighted to announce that Robert Judson, the man who developed and founded Hammerhead barrels, is to fly in from the USA to give a special presentation at the Tippmann Challenge UK.

Robert will be appearing at the event to give a special presentation in the Tippmann Lounge explaining the science and technology behind the Hammerhead barrels. Places for this presentation will be limited.

Robert will also be displaying the full range of Hammerhead products, offering free demo loans out to players and providing masses of technical information to those who want it.

It's a fantastic opportunity for players to get to meet and listen to one of paintballs true innovators and we are delighted to be able to welcome him to the event.

"I am very excited about coming to the UK and visiting the land of my ancestors who hailed from England and Ireland.
I am attending the event because first of all I love to play,I love to meet the players using our barrels and at some point on the Sunday I will be locking the doors to the trade booth and getting out and playing with you "Bloody" guys, and having some fun.
I will be helping Tippmann with their support of their retailers and players, and provide a ton of technical information on how rifling works. I also love to tell the story of how Hammerhead started and inform players how the system works. The primary purpose is to have some fun, and make some shots on some Brits. (I fully expect to get the same in return, as this is all part of the game). LOL.
Also, the British Commonwealth told me they would buy me a warm beer if I came over, and I am going to hold them to that promise. I feel a high sense of Loyalty to the British, especially to the players on the British Commonwealth Team that comes to D-day each year. We had a great time this year. I had the distinct opportunity to show those guys what "Real" Texas Bar-B-Que tastes like.
I am looking forward to meeting many of you at the Tippmann Challenge in the UK, which from this side of the Atlantic looks set to be an unbelievable event"
Robert Judson
Hammerhead Barrels

Only 50 places will be available for Roberts presentation. The presentation will take place in the Tippmann Lounge at 1330 hrs on Super6 Saturday at the Tippmann Challenge UK using the plasma display screens. It'll be a case of the first in the queue will get in. The session will be announced via the event PA system. It's a one-off opportunity and worth coming early for.

5 man woodland tournament at TCUK!

Ever fancied a go at playing woodland tournament, but in a laid back and relaxed atmos?

At the Tippmann Challenge we'll be running a 5 man woodland tournament on Super6 Saturday.

It'll be a nice laid back affair and a chance to have a go 5 on 5 and have a few giggles.

There's nothing up for grabs - its just a chance for players to try something a bit new if they've never tried playing a woodland competition.........or for those who like that side of the game to mix their paintball up over the weekend.

So if you and a few mates fancy a go - make sure you are ready to rock at 2pm and listen out for instructions from the event PA system.

The Game

As we move into the final few days, lets concentrate on the Super6 Sunday Big Game at the Tippmann Challenge.

The game has been deliberately designed to be a messy gunfight and at all times players will find themselves surrounded.

The Holmbush site is unique in that it's shaped like a polo mint, with the hole in the middle being the main staging area and the playing area surrounding it. That means that its next to impossible to know who is behind you at any given minute.

From the very start of the game, faction leaders will be unsure whether to stick or twist. Do they attack or will their faction be attacked? Nobody will be confident of what will happen at game on. Any one faction could be pincered by two other factions and quickly wiped out, but that would leave the attacking team light on the other side of the park.

The strategies that the Faction Leaders decide on will set the tone for the day. It'll be very very interesting to see how the start plays out.

The basic foundation for the game will revolve around four bases. Those who played last year will remember some epic battles around bases 1 and 3 (the Castle and the Church):

http://i54.tinypic.com/2akchtw.jpg

http://i55.tinypic.com/wui1eg.jpg

http://i54.tinypic.com/2uyhyye.jpg

http://i54.tinypic.com/zlys2d.jpg

Some of the Black team was cocky enough to even pose for a photo during the game after capturing the Castle.

http://i56.tinypic.com/1z52448.jpg

The TCUK will be played over a total of 13 game zones - the area is massive and without your map you'll almost certainly get lost. Don't worry about making your own map - Shoreline will provide a map for every single player.

The game zones offer different challenges. Zone A is overlooked by a grand stand so non-players can sit and watch the action. The zone itself is made up of trenches, hard cover, gun positions and two (yes....two!) churches, one at each end. The Northern boundary of the zone is thick woodland, offering perfect outflanking territory.

http://i52.tinypic.com/2qsximx.jpg
(The view overlooking Zone A - The Church field)

Zone J, The Village, is also quite exciting with a mass of huts and low level buildings as is Zone D.

http://i55.tinypic.com/2rmw7z4.jpg

For all the sneaky beaky types, the venue is like paradise. The cover is thick, the site is massive (one of the biggest in the UK) and the round nature of the game allows so much opportunity to flank and hit unsuspecting enemy from behind.
For those who like their paintball less subtle, capturing and then holding the bases promises to be quite a trip! .......... and every single minute you hold onto a base counts!

We've simplified the game this year from last year, but have introduced a delicious new twist. PYRO KILLS!!!

So capturing a Base maybe one thing, but holding on to it maybe a lot harder than you think. A couple of well aimed pyro's over the walls or through the windows can easily eliminate 20+ defenders, leaving the base wide open for the attackers to re-take. So expect a lot of counter attacks and watch out for those Grenadiers! We've already heard of teams buying up hundreds and hundreds of flashbangs by the box load - so it looks like things could get fruity and we're expecting the Bases to be hard to hold on to.

http://i52.tinypic.com/jacqc7.jpg

To add another level of spice to proceedings, hundreds of QR codes will be scattered around the site. Some will reveal Special Missions, some will reveal bonus points and some will be boobie prizes which will take points off your team. Your Command HQ will scan your codes to reveal the secrets. There is nothing stopping players scanning the codes 'in field' if you wish.....but personally I'd rather be running and gunning than fiddling around with my iPhone in the middle of a gunfight.

Each faction leader will also be given a 'special weapon' and it is up to them to choose when they deploy it. They may work together and deploy their weapons all at the same time, or spread them over the day......who knows?

One of the things that we all hate as players is long walks to respawn. So each team will have a central respawn corridor right in the middle of the venue at the main staging area and each team will also have two 'in field' respawn points. This means that no player will ever be more than a 1 minute walk from a respawn point - allowing you to get back into the game as quickly as possible.

One of the potential problems with scenario games is that fields are not perfectly even. So usually the team that loses always moans that they had a disadvantage on the ground. We've solved that problem at the Tippmann Challenge by fliping all the in-field respawn points and respawn corridors mid way through the game. This means that the field will be perfectly balanced for both teams. It also promises to shake things up a bit (as if they need shaking up any more!!!) at 1230 when the entire field will reverse and flip over. It'll make for a wonderful mess and some horrific gun fights. Woop!

http://i56.tinypic.com/epkmsl.jpg

As with all Shoreline games, the last hour is set up to be the mother of all scraps. We always like to finish on a high. The entire fight will be focused around Base 1. Expect the air to be thick with paint, expect bangs, tears and bruises. Expect a titanic struggle as both teams wrestle over the same objective, hundreds of thousands of paintballs flung in one condensed area. Players hurling themselves into the Base hoping to hang on. Expect smoke, pyro, thrills and spills. Legends and reputations will be made in that last hour and teams will write their names into scenario folklore. Its' going to be quite a 60 minutes!!!!!

http://i56.tinypic.com/30jo5xc.jpg

TRIADS are still the biggest faction, but the Black Team are going to have a job on their hands managing such a lop sided force. Game on could be very interesting!

MOSSAD are still showing well, with a team of 17 Belgians booking into MOSSAD yesterday helping to maintain it as the largest Green faction.

Just 3 days left to book your tickets online!!!

Tickets close at noon on Wednesday. If you have not booked in by then, you will have to 'Pay on the Day' which will cost more and you will be unable to choose your side or faction.

Some reminders:

- The Super6 Academy sessions (both classroom and field based) will be run by the outstanding Dog Soldiers team at TCUK. No matter if you are experienced or a brand new player, they'll be well worth attending at 1300 hrs and 1500 hrs

- The 5 man woodland competition will be run by Andy Sables. It'll be a nice relaxed affair with 5 man teams facing off in a round robin series of games to decide who are the winners. It's old school woodland competition in a nice chilled atmos and well worth jumping on if you fancy a chance of pace to scenario.

- The Tippmann Pump games will run for an hour from noon. Tippmann will loan you the pump gun free of charge, just bring some paint. The games will be run and marshalled by the Tippmann UK Team

- The main Saturday scenario game will start at noon and run for four hours continuously. You can dip in and out of the game as you wish and the scrap will be run and marshalled by the Shoreline Rangers.

- The Tiberius Shooting Competition will start at 1300 - we'll give you free First Strike rounds

- The Bring and Buy sale will start at 1500 hrs and is a chance to turn your old kit into cash - or to buy some absolute bargins......well worth a good look

- The world famous Tippmann TPX Pistol challenge will be held at 1600 hrs. It's great fun. Tippmann loan you the TPX pistol and co2 sparklets completely free of charge and you play in a series of rounds to determine who is the TCUK TPX Pistol Champion

- Air Safety Training is at 1700

- The Party Challenges start at 2000 hrs

-----------------

Just to clear some things up - you can cook, you can use BBQ's and you can drink at the TCUK. All of this can be done in the main trader area - which is about 20 metres away from the camping field.

Please remember - this is Trader Paint and Pyro only - so don't bring your own paint or pyro or you risk being ejected from the event by security.

Please also remember that the bar will be serving cider and lager on draught at decent prices. In order to support the site owner who has spent a fortune to bring this bar in for us - you'll be unable to bring in cans of lager or cider (and why would you want to when its cold on tap? ;-) - I drink lager in case anyone is wondering)

Registration closes at 0800 on Sunday and the safety briefing will be at 0900. If you are not at the safety briefing - you'll not play.....that's a requirement of our insurance so is not negotiable. So please allow yourself plenty of time. As a rule of thumb for newer players - most players arrive between 0700 and 0730 on Sunday Big Game days.

That's about it!

---------------------------------

The scene is set. The Shoreline convoy rolls out early tomorrow morning. Players from across the globe are already airborne or packing up their vehicles making their way to the event. Representatives from Tippmann are in the air inbound from the USA. UK traders are packing wagons and boosting stocks, the site team are putting finishing touches to the site. The weather is good. Marshalls are all briefed and ready to rock. Hpac are set and ready to go. The Super6 TV boys have their shiney new professional camera. Pyro is primed. Medics are stood to. Food stocks are in, beer is sitting ready.........

All systems are go.

Its almost time.................for The Challenge!

Shoreline kicked off the Super6 Series back in February in a game that many described as a game changer for UK Scenario Paintball. Since that game we've been busy putting on events in France, Croatia and running trips to the United States. We've run the cheapest ever UK game with 300 players at Armo-Geddon and we've run what has been called the Worlds Greatest ever paintball game in Call To Duty III.

But now we're back on home turf.............and we've got something special in store for you all.

It's a Shoreline Super6 weekend - hold tight riders..........here we go!

If you've never been to a Shoreline Big Game before, then you are in for a treat. If this weekend is your first experience of Big Game paintball, the the worm is about to turn for you.

At this very moment, players from all over the UK, Ireland, Germany, Holland, France, Belgium, Sweden, Malta, Poland and even as far away as Australia are stuffing kit into their bags. Checking their guns and re-checking. Brushing down tac vests, testing laces on boots, cleaning down masks. No matter how experienced, all will have that familiar feeling in their guts. Its not nerves, its not quite excitement, its something different. Its the feeling that brings us back time and time again, like junkies searching for another paintball hit. Its the expectation, the knowledge that in less than 100 hours from this very moment, each and every man, woman, girl or boy will be engaged in their own titanic struggle, involved in a gunfight of epic proportions, surrounded by screaming and choking smoke as explosions tear through the air. Its the knowledge that in less than 100 hours every muscle in your body will be screaming, your lungs will be bursting but your feet will be flying, your fingers will be a blur as you rain your own personal thunder down on your opponent.

There will be times when you will form part of an unstoppable wave, shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of team mates who only moments before were strangers, but now feel like brothers, sweeping and destroying all before you and you will feel invincible, like giants in the land of the small. But there will be times when you will be alone. Curled in a bush like a baby, vulnerable and lonely and those moments of sweeping and crushing advances will feel like a life time ago.

There will be times when you are on the gun line, part of a massive front line, hundreds strong, hurling paint at your opponent with glorious fury. The massed ranks lined up against you just visible through the haze of battle engaging you with equal violence. An orgy of paintball, glorious, spectacular and unbeatable. But there will be times when your battle will be very personal. Your world will shrink, shrink down to one man, one barricade, a one on one battle for survival. As battle will rage all around you, you will be oblivious, deaf and blind to it all, caught up in your own gladiatorial struggle, your own battle and nothing else in the world will matter. To win, you must shoot truer, move quicker and think faster. When you see your shots land home, the spray of paint as the ball thuds into your opponents body, see them wince and walk away defeated, head bowed, vanquished, the adrenaline explodes through your body. Your are master of your small world and free to seek out and destroy others who stand in your way. Its a drug, its what brings us back, its what burns our money, our relationships and our hopes of a quiet weekend on the sofa. Its a feeling that only your paintball brothers understand, and those outside never will.

If you are young, or new then fear not. Every man around you was once. Keep your head, shoot straight and move fast, you are one of us now.

From foreign shores come teams of men, searching for the thrill of battle. Titans of the global game, but hooked on the combat, like you and I. The word has spread across the shores, across the plains and through the mountains, it is Britain where the best now ply their trade. It is in the white hot fury of the battles that rage across this ancient land that gladiators of the game now flock to prove their worth. The smell of combat fills their nostrils, flared, ready to unleash their own brand of hell in these clashes the locals call......The Super Games. Some will stand against you, like visions from hell, the wild beards of the Norsemen flowing beneath their armoured face guards. But some will stand alongside you, shoulder to shoulder, brethren. They will not yield. You will not yield. In those final seconds before battle, as you line up facing your foe, the fire in your belly will threaten to consume you, your senses will be screaming, the tension will hang in the air over you and your comrades like a thick suffocating blanket. A glance held, a tiny nod of the head, there is no need for words. The silence will deafen, a thousand words spoken in one silent moment. It is time. You are one of us now, and now is the time for you to show your worth.

Game on!
