Talkpaintball Apps
It is with the greatest of pleasure that I can announce that the new Talkpaintball.com aps have started to go live.
We have over the last few months tried shortcuts to getting a talkpaintball.com mobile solution for smart phones and portable divices.
The most recent was ok, but had issues that some of you know about already.
So..
Over the last couple of day, I put my hand in my pocket and spent a lot of money and hours sorting something new and very special.
Basically we have created two "Apps", one for the Android platform and one for the Iphone/Ipod platform.
About 10 mins ago, the "Android" version went live in the Android Marketplace.
If you have an Android divice, just go to marketplace and simply search for either "Paintball" or "Talkpaintball".
I have it installed and it's perfection....I've also set it to FREE so it doesn't cost a penny to our members.
This project has already cost a small fotune, there will be beans on toast in the Sables household for the next couple of months and Matt will have to do without shoes.
The Iphone App is in the testing stages (If you have ever tried to develop an Iphone App, you will appreciate the mind crunching complexity of their system) and will go live within the next 14 days.
The investment that has been put into talkpaintball for this project has been substantial, but I really do see a huge value in an informative and friendly forum for the paintball community.

Link for those without Android divices, just so you can see what you could have had..!!

Sounds great, is the iPhone one going to be free also? Or 59p etc..?

It's going to be FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
All of talkpaintball is free, no one will ever pay to use talkpaintball, there will never be any sections that will be paid for. Sites will never ever pay to advertise their events. And the Apps will always be FREE!!
Talkpaintball is a service to the Paintball community, there is no money making angle whatsoever.

ANDY YOU F#@?'N LEDGEND!!!!! Il be wating app store like a hawk cant wait to download it but to get your money back i for one would be happy to pay a quid or so. we are a paintball comunity and i know you say it should be free but im sure others would agree its not fair for you to cover the cost as a comunity im sure if we all chucked a quid in atleast it would allow matt to get some form of flip flop at best :o
im not sure on the point of these apps, especially when you can just use safari on the iphone?

The app is a bit different to the forum, it's a cut down version so loads very very fast.
It has some really good features and it's really easy to use quickly. Like when you are on the move.
It integrates into your phone, so your phone tells you if you have a new PM etc.

The Android App has been available on Android Market place for less than a week and we have just hit 50 installs.
The IPhone App is still "Pending Approval", they said 2 weeks, so it should be available in the next few days.
Just do a search on Android Marketplace for either "Paintball" or "Talkpaintball" for the App.
If you have an IPhone, just do the same on Itunes.
I've only just seen this thread and just got the Android app. Loving it so far, great job Andy. It's speedy as hell :D
thanks Andy, downloading now :)
Just downloaded the app for iPhone .. Well I wrote this message on it .. :)

I am on the andriod list - just trying out an a-pad
I hate to be "that guy" but:
At the minute my account is set up to subscribe to every thread I post in, with notification being instantly via email. This works fine when on my girlfriends laptop. But, if I use the iPod app and post in a thread that I'm subscribed to, it removes the subscription for some reason?
Just got round to installing this on my samsung.. love it! Works like a charm.
Also, being "that guy" again but is there a way to refresh on the iPhone/iPod app? Loaded it up earlier to reply to a PM as the app is much faster than the site, received a notification of a new PM by email, went to reply in the app and couldn't find a way to get it to load the new PM. Had the same problem with not being able to find a way to display new posts, just kept loading the old ones even though there were new posts.
Probably just something simple that I'm missing, if it is then please let me know how stupid I am ;)
downloaded it and works a treat on the iPhone many thanks and I will back togworth it's worth a quid anyday!
I am also having problems with the messages not updating/refreshing ...
But then some times it does, dunno if I doing something wrong lol ..
I love it tho it's so fast :)

I think it's because the forum is set to update messaging etc, every 15 mins. Saves bandwidth.
Just smashed through 300 downloads.
One thing that I I don't like is that the thread only says number of posts and who started the thread . I would prefer it if it said who posted last then I no if people had replied,
some times i have the new posts up hit home and home again and loose then so browsing the forum I don't no who replied
Part from that I love it never off it .. I think uks needs to invest in one now too :)

App downloads now knocking on the door of 500.
Little bit of a forum update, now adds when a member has posted using one of the apps.

App downloads have just sailed passed 500.
Can you add an update so you can see who is online like the web version where a green lightbulb appears next to the name?

Total App downloads, just passed 700.
Interestingly, the Android App beats the IPhone App by 2:1

Great to see a community embracing such things as apps etc, i actually don't even use my laptop anymore and have moved completely over to my iPad as I spend a lot of time on the move, unfortunately iPhone apps although will work on the iPad, are just to small when u zoom in you then lose the clarity, I would however say well done it worked very well :)

Ace :D
I use it all the time :)
Just wish there was a refresh button on it... cos I have to keep closing the iPhone app down then re-open it to re-pull down the new posts.

Hi is anyone else experienceing problems with the android app. Mine keeps force closing all the time when I try going into a thread, this has become very frustrating and made it unusable. I have tried re-starting my phone and uninstalling the app and re-installing it and it hasn't made any difference.
Or is it just that phone is piece of Cack!!!!!

DOn't see the point in paying extra for something that you can't make phone call on. If the price was inline with other phones and you didn't to pay more in line rental for having one I would maybe give it a go. Most people I know seem to have it as a bit of a status symbol to follow the trend. Not all though I hasten to add, there are those that can actually use them, they're just not for me.

fair enough :D
I guess what I am saying is that Android as an OS is very beta-like and is prone to crashing. I work for O2 (albiet Broadband side) but I get to test many phones from the new Razr Droid to the Pro Plus (Motorola's answer to the Blackberry running Android) and it always seems like Android is a few years behind actually working. Not tried Android 4.0 yet though, so maybe that is the game changer...

Thats insteresting to know, my girlfriends brother took a step to persuading me to iphone a little over xmas. Just don't want to pay more on line rental to have one. Initially android was fine but on some apps it is getting more probe to thmm crashing, but its only the talkpaintball app that always does it and other bits very rarely. Due for an upgrade in a few months, any reccomendations would be appreciated.
