Hai :D

If you want to meet folk, play ball and get to look at shiney kit, rebellion paintball (Falkirk) monthly walkon is this Sunday. Whole bunch of people going to be there. I may even grace it with my presence!!

If you dont have kit rent it. Your looking at 20 quid entry, 25 quid a case (2000) paint and I think its a tenner to rent site kit. Good day out and a great site, the guys that run it are great guys.

Not a huge pball scene in Glasgow or Scotland really, we've had to travel south for every single big game this year. Going to be some more in Scotland next year if the rumours from Tim are right.

If you've any questions ask away. Ignore rustyneedle and beano but everyone elses advice is sound :D

Where abouts in Glasgow are you? Im southside.

doh! I have to be up North for a birthday this weekend

I'll try and make the next one. Are they usually pretty big? Whats the deal with clothing? do people usually wear like army surplus or...?

I got advice on starting on my other thread. Basically buy helmet before gun and don't buy a crap gun. Eying up the BT TM-15 (i think?) so a bit of saving required.....

I'm in the middle by George X

Yeah theres a walkon in November, ill find the date and post up at some point.

Before laying out hundreds of quid on markers, come fondle some. If your at the next walkon, I will deffo, so can introduce you round and let you see things.

Dont worry about clothing, play in spandex for all anyone cares, just wear something comfortable.

A 15 min chat over lunch with us will tell you more than a month of forum surfing. Dont worry about anything, just come along. Its how all of us started. Im easy to spot as im usually dry humping someone, but our names and team logo are plastered all over us.

We're down the tourny style paintball marker route as they are lighter, more efficent . .and just better . . the walkon scene up here has very little milsim type markers. People learn their limitations fast when there fighting hoards of NT11s, macdevs and planet markers.

Numbers wise, last walkon was about 40, which is quite high to be fair. Average about 25-30 folks. But those numbers do work well at the site.

First, a decent mask. Plenty of choice. Make sure it has good lens, as a fogged up lens spoils you day. Using good goggs means you dont need to worry about it. Events are great value for money, dye i4s are some of the best.

Also seen on another thread of yours you were worried about age, dont be. Our youngest is 25, im 26. Some of the team are on par with andy at 165. Its not about age its about ability, which you can learn.

There are of course some young guys that run like whippets. However a paintball goes at 191mph. They cant outrun that :P

ahh cheers man ill keep an eye out for the date! Thanks for offering to show me around ill take you up on that!

What is the difference between the milsim and tourny guns? I thought the bright colours on the (few) tourny ones i seen would make you stick out like a sore thumb?

For the mask, is there somewhere i can go try them on in town or nearby?

Milsim guns look all realistic military firearm crap. Im not a fan of it one bit.

A tourney marker is one designed for paintball from the ground up rather than trying to imitate something its not.

heres my custom anno NT11, see how it doesnt break any VCR acts. Thats good for paintball.

it,s not the marker that gets spotted ,it`s usually the 6foot lump behind it;)
but all tournie markers can be bought in black if bright colours aren`t your thing:)
but as craig has said tournie markers a just so much better

i own both and love both just depends what takes my mood, in all fairness thou my tourny marker is easier to handle, lighter and i have less issues with it, but my tm15 is just fun :) but go with what you prefere difo try things before you buy them thou

I, like rusty, own both a tourney and milsim marker. I have a Planet Eclipse Etek 1 and a Tippmann Phenom and I have to say the Planet Eclipse marker is a lot better performance wise. You can pick one up for around £100 and they are superb, very reliable and great value for money. If you are at Time Wars, you are welcome to try out my markers.

do the comp guns have any sights on them?

I thought it would be more to do with the game type? like CQB would favour the smaller lighter faster guns but a longer range would be better for the sighted longer barelled gun?

Excuse my ignorance I have only experienced DF's flavour of paintball which i think is what you call woodball?

Beano
10-10-2011, 21:47
Aye, this time I may actually be prepared and I'll get to beat y'all like eggs :P

That's providing I can even make it to that event, any idea on where it'll be held?

CraigofScotland
10-10-2011, 21:51
@Beano, not sure, prob one of the first of the big game series next year.

@coma, sights dont add anything, come play and you'll see. paintballs dont fire straight, and paintballers move in the strangest ways that you either dont have time to sight like that or your being shot at too much. With practice, where the balls go is kinda 2nd nature, I just sorta shoulder the marker and fire without looking down it, my arms just know where to aim, its a paintball specific thing, you just gotta try/see. Ill show you when you come to the walkon.

10-10-2011, 22:09
Ahh i see, I kinda started getting that with the guns at df...could sorta get the first one near target then hone it in... Can't wait!

If i do go for a comp it'll defo be black or maybe I could put some disruptive pattern on it... I managed to get a few good tags on people simply by laying still in a bush and waiting for them to break cover .... yon yellow paintballs gave the position away though!

i disagree abit with this statment, as my tm15 with its current set up is zero'd to around 30 to 35 metre and you get a good grouping at that distance (red dot sight), but over a distance hes right its all about feel and experience. i am still getting the hang of an apex2 :) (sights do not work with an apex at all)

you can get camo paint balls lol

lol. At such a short distance do you think its the sigt thats helping you get that or just the fact you've fired a paintball marker before. Do you think you can do it without a sight?? Most people can. Therefore theres no need for a sight. No need to spend time trying to get your marker lined up and your target with a silly little dot.

I never mentioned accuracy, at paintball range how could it not be. What I refer too if you read, is function.

Give me a sight, im 100% sure id be at a disadvantage should I actually try use it correctly.

Next you will tell me that a longer barrel will make it more accurate.

It is of course all personal preference so we can debate forever without a correct answer but I think the lack of scopes and sights in paintball speaks for itself. If something gave an advantage, even slightly, it would be used by the masses. Its simply not. Ever wonder why?

comanighttrain
11-10-2011, 10:03
A longer barrell doesnt mean a straighter flying round?

CraigofScotland
11-10-2011, 11:13
WHy would putting a paintball along an extra few inches of pipe make it straighter?

What you need to pickup on, is that paintballs dont follow ballistics like a firearm. Paintballs dont fire in a straight or linear trajectory.

What paintballs require is consistent roundness, which is harder than you think, any egg shapedness, even slightly would cause a hook shot. Much like if a golf ball wasnt round. Then you have to take into account the air that propelling the ball and how its givento the ball and also how the ball is pushed by the bolt away from the feed hole.

In my opinion, and theres much debate on the subject, I like the barrel back to have the exact same bore as the paintball, this allows the air to push the paintball in all the right places to allow for a more accurate shot.

It then effects things like air consumption and other things I wont bore you with at this stage.

Its really easy to get geeky about the equipment and science behind it all. Its really interesting stuff.

apologies i thought this is what you ment when you said.

"@coma, sights dont add anything, come play and you'll see. paintballs dont fire straight,"

i use my tourny most of the time no sights and as i don't think they are needed in paintball, but saying that i was using my tm sunday with a red dot and i enjoyed it, i got a few good kills and head shots but as craig says you can't use them to there potential, paintball is too quick most of the time not mention when your under fire the red dot get cover in paint spray, so becomes useless any ways :)

lol and no a longer barrel does not make you more acurate, as craig says above :)

this could go on a while i am agreeing with you, that the sight isn't needed, but it is useful if you have one, :)

ahhh, I think im just drawn toward sights because i used to practice with an air rifle... which does kind of work like a normal gun.

I guess I can cross that bridge when I get to another game.

If barrel length doesnt really effect accuracy then a shorter barrel would be a better idea...trying to log a long gun about for no pay off would be a nightmare

As for geeky gun details just fire away man - I like technical stuff!

Also I seen someone had reviewed paintball sniper markers - http://www.co2paintballguru.com/sniper-paintball-rifle.html, what do you guys make of them?

I wouldn't buy one initially obviously...interesting option though!

People call big long stupid looking guns, sniper markers. When infact how it looks has nothing to do with it. Everyone can fire the same paintball at 280fps, so range isnt really question as me running at you with a tourny gun can fire the exact same range as you with a sniper gun.

Question is, in that situation, do you want a heavy, cumbersome marker, or something agile, fast, efficent.

There is always of course those who proclaim to the world that they are paintball snipers and its an art form and no one but them can do it and they can shoot 100000 guys before even being seen cause there 70 quid mechanical marker is firing so accurate they once shot the wings of a fly.

Last guy to proclaim that sniper mentality had an asthma attack when it was me v him at a big game challange :D (he will never live it down, ever). And they now shoot tourny markers.

Hide and wait and use a bit of tactics, everyone does, we dont simply walk in straight lines waiting for a fight, but use the best equipment for the job, not what you seen in hollywood movies.

you'll see when you play.

wut? you hit someone with a rubber chicken?

CraigofScotland
11-10-2011, 14:42
Pre-rubber chicken story info - In paintball, you can barrel tag, ie, touch them with the side of your barrel and they are out. Some fields operate a surrender rule whereas if your say <3m from someone you can shout surrender and they are out. Thus stoping really sore paint hits from silly distances.

In recent times, people have used pods, fluffies (barrel cleaning kit) etc instead of barrels to "barrel tag". Nial used a rubber chicken.

It was superb!!!! as at that game it was 25 vs about 200 . . :)

if you can get your self to prozone Annan Dumfries and Galloway on sunday the 6th November AFGM will be there and you can tag along with us if you like we will point you in the right direction

also just my op is that if u are looking to play woods i would most deff go for a tourni marker as i find them a lot lighter to run around teh woods with just my opp but i am a tornie player :)
