I tried to sign on to msn messenger and it says i need to download the new one, i click on the link and it downloads, but right at the end an error box comes up and says
the windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur when you are running windows in safe mode, or if windows installer isnt correctly installed

as far as im aware the computer isnt in safe mode and i have no clue what the installer is...

HELP how do i get it?

when it it about to finish downloading make sure msn is closed on the bottom right of your screen

tried that, i cant even delete msn from my comp, the same error box comes up...

I'll just take my comp in tomorrow...

Restart your computer, make sure its not in safe mode, then try running it again. If it dosn't work re-download the install file from the offical msn messenger website, make sure you remove msn from the computer before you re-install the new version.

Hmm... don't know really. Whats the file called (just to verify it is the rite one) should be INSTALL_MSN_MESSENGER_DL. Should be a self extracting zip. Does it un-pack then error or just error as soon as u click it ?

as comes up just as the file finishes downloading. I looked on the help files for msn and there wasnt an area to help with that error, i presume it's my computer being gay about downloading new stuff.

Its the actual application within Windows (Windows Installer Service) that handles the installs that the problem, not messenger.....

SHould help you out. Im crap at paintball and only have a delta, but I know a thing or two about those little biege boxes. ;)

sometimes this happens with a doggy installation of windows or when you have a virus, i've seen the idea of a virus that knocks out M$ installer in quite a lot of recent virii's source

try to run windows update, it might pick up on the fact you need M$ installer again, if not, bin windows, put linux on there

you said you wanted a computer geek :)

windows update just released a new version of installer service thing. grab it and see if it fixes itself

you could just use trillian... aim, yahoo, msn all in one interface.

Scan you pc for virus's using Panda Active Scan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm)

thats if you don't have anti virus software allready (if you have Norton or Mcaffee i sugest you try this anyway. Then try it if it still doesn't work then check for windows updates download all of them to get you system up to date. Then try it if it still doesn't work back up everything you need files , write down passwords and stuff on a piece of paper if you can't remember them then put the windows disk in and do a system repair ( you may loose information and settings when you do this) the update everything aagain and just download the new msn of the msn site.
