Its not the barrel on its own as such but a good barrel \paint combo thats more important, hence the popularity of multi bore systems like the Empire and Freaksets that enable you to match the paintsize to the bore of the barrel\insert giving you a more accurate, longer flying ball.
What do you use?
i use a freak set up myselfbut i do know that a good fit is very important:)
but does the size make any diffrance ;) or porting:)

You're guess is as good as mine as everybody has their own opinion ,and I don't think anybody has ever come up with a definitive answer, personally I think portings more of a fashsion statement than a performance thing.
You want to take the other side of the arguement ,my mate Sosta uses the biggest bore ,longest length JJ you've ever seen and he can hit the gnats gonads anywhere on the field:confused:
but is that down to the way the marker delivers air/co2 to the ball or is it down to him havin the biggest barrel
i know from using diffrent markers ie infernos, shockers and cockers that they all have a diffrent delivery on the paint but no one barrel type will deliver the same result on all the markers:confused:
it also seems to be the longer the barrel the more accurate but surley as the barrel gets longer the ball will slow towards the end or even cause blow back when rapid fire is needed
:( causing balls to breack or similar:confused:

All hard points to give proper answers to really, bolt and firing systems are very important in accuracy and as you rightly say its difficult to compensate one markers faults by putting certain barrels on it.
There are definatley good and bad barrels tho' as you know yourself ,but I'm not convinced on the length being solely responsible for range,Dave at Rekka who makers supurb barrels(you're welcome to use one of mine next time I see you) won't make anything over 14" as he says its pointless,in fact he only makes 14" because people want them and they don't have a performance edge over the 12" versions and having used them I have to agree.
Porting won't have any adverse affect on a barrel but then again I can't see it having much of a positive one either,I doubt if it imparts any spin on the ball, its not there to act as a muzzle compensator as paintball markers don't impart that sort of energy, they may make the report quieter.
It'll be interesting to see other peoples views on this subject.

Its a good barrel...so long as it fits the paint as they only come in 2 bores I believe,I had one on a Mag and it was bloody useless ,barrel brakes `cos the bore was very tight for a .689,and I didn't find it overly accurate either.
