UWL 2014 - Prices and information

    Taken from https://www.facebook.com/groups/UWLU...0787328984920/

    *****2014 UWL UK*****

We are delighted to announce the details for the 2014 UWL UK:

Leg 1, UWL North: Saturday 1st Feb at YPC, York
Leg 2, UWL Midlands: Sunday 13th April at Adrenalin Jungle, Notthingham
Leg 3, UWL South: Sunday 8th June at Campaign Paintball, Cobham
Leg 4, UWL Super Cup: Saturday 6th September at Staargate, Wakefield

We'll be looking at using new fields at the existing venues (YPC, Campaign and Staargate) and are delighted to add a brand new venue to the series at Adrenalin Jungle near Nottingham which is an outstanding site.

If you book in before 31st December then you can save 50 per leg. If you book an entire season ticket then your team can save 250!
If you book in after 31st December then the prices are frozen at 2013 level - 250 per team.

Tickets can be purchased from www.bluewaterpaintball.com
UWL details can be found on the UWL section of www.shorelineoutdoor.com

There will be two divisions, Pro and Div 1. This splitting of the teams will allow newer or less experienced teams to just play teams of a similar level. THis will improve the competitiveness and mean that every team participating has the chance to win a leg or the entire series. Teams will self seed (i.e. decide with division to play in) but we may issue guidance and advice to ensure your team are placed in the most suited division.

The winner of each division on the day will receive prizes donated by Valken Bluewater which will be well worth having, these will be on top of the trophies, champagne etc.

We will be looking to 'up' the media from the 2014 season with improved photography and video content.

Team and playing rankings will operate as per 2013, however we will introduce a few tweaks to improve the accuracy of the player rankings.

There will be some rule tweaks which will be published on the website well in advance.
Game resets will now be called by the players, not the refs. Each team will have a reset option which they can use at any time but there will be a points penalty incurred for using it.
Series winners will be the team from each division who accumulates the most ranking points over the course of the 4 legs.
We will be collecting more data from players, i.e. what marker you shoot, what paint you shoot etc and publishing this alongside the player rankings tables.
Our player rankings will come closer in to line with the formats used at other UWL events around the world so that UK players can see how they are performing against other UWL players all over the planet.
New UWL training venues will be added to the list - these are sites which offer teams a low cost venue to practice and train.

We are also delighted to have teamed up with the NSC (Dutch Scenario Competition) to create a hybrid UWL/NSC format Cup Competition which will take place at The Citadel event in May 2014 called the European Woodsball Competition (EWC). The aim is for teams from all over Europe who play UWL/NSC/BSC etc to be able to come together, play a format that does not favour one league (i.e. a new hybrid format taking bits from all woodland leagues) and compete against each other to determine the best competitive woodsball team in Europe. The EWC will be a one-off Cup Competition and check this out..........it'll be FREE OF CHARGE if you have a Citadel ticket.
We really hope lots of the UK UWL teams go out and pit themselves against their equivalents from Holland, Belgium, France and Germany and bring back the first ever EWC trophy back to these shores. If this EWC works well this year, I suspect it may be the basis for a genuine Europe wide competition in the future. Its very very exciting. The EWC will not earn ranking points towards UWL....it is a stand alone cup competition and a genuine chance for your team to play for the title of European Champions and bring home the massive trophy. The fact that is is FREE is a super bonus...........further details will be released in good time.

That's it............the UWL section of the website will be updated shortly, if you want to save yourself some cash, then book in early.....if you have any questions then please feel free to post them up.

We really enjoyed the UWL this year and look forward to refining it and improving for the 2014 season. I think about 20 teams took part at various points this season with a couple of hundred players.....it would be great to grow that for year 2 and we think the introduction of two divisions will really help all teams have a genuine chance to be competitive and be in with a shout of winning.
Soop - looking good! Season booking is 750, or individual early bird booking is 200 a team. After the cut off, it is 250 a team.

Re: UWL 2014 - Prices and information

I was looking at a Talkpaintball Army team for this (so newbies can play it) - but I have a feeling newbies will be put off by the entry price and experience... so maybe skip it for this year.

So... I am wanting to attend ALL games next year for this and need to either join a team or... create a team.

If anyone needs a player, or wants to form a super-awesome-wet-your-pants team for this, drop me a PM

Put the " +1 Sniper" rule in please! It'd be great to support the pump/pistol/magfed community.

Re: UWL 2014 - Prices and information

My experience of UWL is that a sniper role wouldnt be suitable for this. The action is fast and aggressive - very much like tournament paintball, but in a wooded environment. No sneakybeaky etc

Re: UWL 2014 - Prices and information

Fair request regarding the sniper request, however.........and please don't take this the wrong way, Magfed is still only a tiny part of paintball, most players just aren't interested. If we made it compulsory that one member of each team had to run magfed/sniper then we'd probably loss about 90% of our teams. So its a fair request, but not one that will work at the moment.

But we do as much as we can to support new formats like Magfed, examples being the Magfed games we run at Staargate last year, the entire 3 day Magfed program at The Citadel, invite magfed guys on to our TV show to promote that format of the game and 2014 will see Magfed missions written in to some of our larger games. So as a company, we probably do more than most to promote that new format.......but it wouldn't work in the UWL at this time.

Hope that answers your question Stencil.

Re: UWL 2014 - Prices and information

UWL 2014 kicks off at YPC in 3 weeks.

No matter if you are a total newbie team or veterans, the new two division format will see you competing against teams of similar experience.

UWL is a really good day out. Its competitive. The games are highly intensive. Off the field the atmosphere is really nice and friendly and welcoming. Its well run and organised. All results are updated live on screens in the staging area along with the match schedules.

    How does it all work?

You turn up around 8am with your team. Its a 5 man format, but you can have 2 subs as well if you wish. Your team can walk the field from 8am onwards.
There is a team captains meeting at 8.30am where the Event Ultimate (Tony McGinty) runs through how the day will work with the captains, clarify any questions regarding the rules etc. Its essentially a 5 minute chat to ensure all the captains are happy.

The captains then all flick a series of coins to determine which end of which field their matches will take place on.
There are always 2 fields and each field has a red end and a blue end. At each end is a mini safe area in red or blue netting.

Once the coin tosses are completed, the schedule of matches for the day is displayed on the screens in the safe area and games kick off at 9am.
When you look at the screens, you'll see which field you are playing on and whether you are starting at the Red or Blue end. The screen will also tell you if your team have the Instant Respawn (IR) - more about that later.

There is a PA system and the announcer will constantly be updating and calling out the schedule....so you'll never be late or miss a game between the announcer and the screens. UWL always runs on time. Its a Shoreline thing.

Just after 9am everything kicks off. The first two games start involving 4 teams. A further 4 teams are in the safe areas at teh end of each field, so they are ready to step on to the field as soon as the current match ends. So there are always 8 teams out on the park - 4 playing on the two fields, and the next 4 teams in the safe areas waiting to go on.

When its your turn, you step out of the safe area, apply the red or blue armband given to you by the ref and you provide a witnessed chrono and BPS (Balls Per Second) check to the ref. If you are over the chrono limit or your gun is hiring too fast, the game will not wait for you to fanny about with your kit. If your gun is not legal by the time the game starts, then you'll miss the start of the game and can only rejoin on the respawn point after 5 minutes. In short - UWL doesn't wait for you.....you have to be ready, your gun set up and legal on time.

Once you are all chrono'd, you'll line up touching the start gate and wait for the first whistle.

There are two whistles to start each UWL game. On the first whistle your 'Scout' player can break out and go. Then 5 seconds later a second whistle will sound and the remaining 4 players on your team can break out.

    Game on!

The field is roughly the size of a football pitch - 100m x 50m. There are four flags. One on each of the starting gates and two on the half way line on each side. The objective is to reach the flag and flip it to your colour (red or blue). Every minute you hold the flag you earn points. The team with the most points wins the game.

Games are 10 minutes long......or end earlier if a team has been wiped out.

There is one respawn and that is on the 5 minute mark. If you are shot out before then, you wait at the starting gate and then you will be respawned on the 5 min mark by the ref.

If you are using a substitute or if one of your players failed to make the start of the game, they can come in on the 5 minute mark.

If you flip the opponents 'Home Flag' you receive more points. The first team to flip the opponents Home Flag receive bonus points.

After 10 minutes of intense gunfighting, the game will be over. You go back to your starting gate, give back your armband. Your Captain must then go to the centre of the field where he will be met by the opposing captain and the head ref. All the scores for the game will be tallied up and both captains will sign them off, captains will shake hands and that's that.

By the time you walk back in to the main staging area, your results will already be up on the plasma screen. There will be a table of results showing how many games you've played, how many wins/loss/draws, your for/against points and your match points.

You'll just have enough time to grab a quick drink, pod up and then you'll be moving back out for your next game. You'll repeat this for the rest of the day at least 6 times.

At the end of the day the results will be on the board and there is a short closing ceremony. The top three podium teams for each division will come up, receive prizes with the winners also getting a trophy...spray some champagne about, take a second to get photographs and that's it. Done!

On the Monday after the event, all the player and team rankings will be published so you can compare yourself to everyone else who played. Every team will receive ranking points based on your finishing position.

There are four legs to the UWL. One in the north, one in the midlands, one in the south and the last event is on the Saturday at the Staargate Big Game.
At the end of the 4 leg season, the team in each division with the most ranking points will be crowned UWL Elite Champions and UWL Division One Champions. Those two teams will receive their trophies at the black tie UK Paintball Awards event in November.

The player with the highest ranking points at the end of the season will also receive a trophy and be honoured at the UK Paintball Awards.

The UWL really is for teams of any ability. In 2013 we had teams of total newbies.....using rental kit....up to international pro teams. So nobody needs to think "...we're not good enough..." to take part.

Costs pretty good. A team slot is 250...which equates to 35 quid each if you are a 7 man team (5 plus 2 subs). The average paint use is about a box and paint is available onsite for 20 odd quid.

Its high intensity action. The 10 minute games are FULL ON! Its 10 minutes of straight up, balls on the table gun fighting. 5 on 5. No hiding. Some games go down to the wire with just 1 second to go. The feeling as you walk off with a win is amazing and then seeing your team name climb the league table on the screens in the staging area is awesome. Likewise, if you lose a couple of games, it makes you feel sick to the guts and grimly determined to put it right in the next game. But the high intensity game play is balanced out by the really lovely atmosphere off the field. All the teams interact, help each other out, lend each other kit....have a laugh with each other.......until its game time.......when faces tighten, jaws are clenched, you line up shoulder to shoulder with your team, your mates, your brothers......no quarter is asked for or given. Nowhere to hide. It's ****ing on!

UWL UK 2014. Get booked in.

This sounds awesome but I have no chance of finding 4 other people to join me and make it to all the matches :'(

I'd consider joining a team mind and I get paid next week... but I AM the total noob who's never played anything but a walkon...
